It's Australia Day again, and that means throwing lamb on the barbie, slipping on your best pair of dress thongs and having a ripper of a day. Here are our favourite places to let loose in a family-friendly way on Australia Day this year.

Victoria Park Golf Course

There's heaps of fun to be had at Victoria Park for the whole family, with sack races, jumping castle, face painting, live music, and market carts during the day - plus a delicious range of Aussie-inspired food. Putt putt is open for business so don't forget to swing a club too.

ellaslist opinion: Call the Bistro on 3253 2533 to make a booking for lunch or dinner because the place will be heaving.

Where: 309 Herston Road, Herston
When: Saturday 26 January 10am-5:30pm
Cost: Free entry
More info: Victoria Park website

Sandstone Point Hotel

Join in the fun in the big pools plus a 50-metre mega slip-n-slide - oh yeah! From 12 noon there will be an Aussie lamb barbie, lamington eating competitions, live music and entertainment.

ellaslist opinion: BYO inflatables to go down the slip n slide!

Where: 1800 Bribie Island Road, Sandstone Point
When: Saturday 26 January from 12 noon
Cost: Free entry
More info: Sandstone Point website

Southbank

Southbank never fails to come through for families on big event days, and Australia Day is no different. Bring a picnic and enjoy free live music at River Quay on the Green from 1pm to 5:30pm. Then there will be an Australia Day fireworks display at 7:30pm.

ellaslist opinion: Keep an eye out for the special green and gold fireworks in this year’s display!

Where: Southbank, South Brisbane
When: Saturday 26 January 1pm-8pm
Cost: Free
More info: Southbank website

Aussie World

You don't get more Aussie than dunny races, and that's what you'll find at Aussie World! There are free activities, live music and family fun on the oval from 8am, or pay regular admission to enter the park for all-day rides and fun.

ellaslist opinion: Get in touch via email at [email protected] if you want to participate in the dunny races.

Where: 73 Frizzo Road, Bruce Highway, Palmview
When: Saturday 26 January 8am-5pm
Cost: Free for the oval or regular admission prices for the fun park

Redcliffe is fast becoming the place to be, and this beachside Australia Day is going to go off. The perfect Australia Day needs live music, and Redcliffe has you covered. Australia Day in Redcliffe stage will host a huge array of live performers including ever popular and supremely talented bands.

ellaslist opinion: Save some room for the lamington eating contest!
