The annual lighting up of the Brisbane City Christmas Tree in King George Square is not to be missed, and a wonderful way to start Christmas celebrations in late November. Presented by St George Bank, the 22-metre tree will be adorned with magnificent decorations, one giant star and thousands of fairy lights that will thrill the littlies and get them in the Christmas spirit.

The lights are all solar-powered which is a lovely bonus, so they are purely powered by the sun (as long as the December weather doesn't let us down!).

ellaslist opinion: The lights won't be switched on until it's good and dark, so it can get late with younger children. Dress them in their pyjamas, bring their favourite teddy and settle them down with some snacks on a rug, where you can enjoy a fun concert as the sun is setting over King George Square. Gathering a group of friends together is a fun way to get into the Christmas mood.
