Celebrate the Chinese New Year in the Chinatown Mall in Fortitude Valley. Enjoy firecrackers, traditional lion dancers, music, displays and most importantly, the food. So. Much. Food. Seeing as it’s a celebration, you have permission to indulge and enjoy as all the dumplings. 2019 is the year of the Pig, just saying.

What: Lunar New Year - Chinatown Mall

A vibrant mix of traditional Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese dances, cultural performances, firecrackers and hands-on workshops - part of the wider BrisAsia Festival.

Where: Chinatown Mall, Fortitude Valley

When: 4pm - 9pm Saturday, 9th February & 12pm - 5pm Sunday, 10th February 2019

What: Technicolour Chinese New Year Night Market

Food trucks, Lion Dancing, Craft, Kids Entertainment and Cultural Performance.

Where: DiverCiti Centre, 23 Foster Street, Newmarket

When: Saturday, 16th February 2019 (Market 4pm - 9pm Cultural Show 6.30pm)

Cost: Free entry

ellaslist opinion: There is free onsite parking and plenty of on road parking closeby - very handy if you are bringing the kids along!

What: The Glen Hotel’s 2019 Chinese New Year Festival

Specially designed Asian menu, Chinese lunar lanterns, Fire Crackers, Lion Dancing by the Shaolin Kung Fu Guan, Fire Crackers, competitions and more!

Where: The Glen Hotel, 24 Gaskell Street, Eight Mile Plains

When: 4th - 16th February 2019

Cost: Varies

What: Lunar New Year Race Day - Presented by the Chinese Jockey Club

A range of traditional entertainment such as Dancing Lion, Beijing opera and pop-up Asian Food Markets, alongside live racing.

Where: Doomben Racecourse

When: 16th February 2019 - gates open 10.30am

Cost: Tickets start from $10 pp. (Buffet available for $75 pp)

What: Moreton Bay Region Lunar New Year

Traditional Asian music and dance performances, Asian food stalls, Firecracker display and Asian culture workshops.

Where: Caboolture Town Square, 4 Hasking Street, Caboolture

When: 4pm - 8pm, 9th February 2019

Cost: Free entry
