The New Marrickville Library and Pavilion Is Spine-Tingling Good For Kids

  • Family

We're going to need a bigger library bag. The old Marrickville Library has moved to a brand new, and huge space on the former site of the Marrickville Hospital.

This custom built new library is three times larger than the old one and will house 85,000 books (that's 20,000 more books, we're told).

You'll be able to sprawl out on 1200 square metres of garden space, while the kids enjoy the new junior library and children's playground.

A Whole New World

This space is now known as Patyegarang Place and it is currently being transformed into a vibrant community hub with large scale public art, green spaces, and play areas.

Because books and coffee go hand in hand, you'll be able to sit at the on-site cafe by inner-west faves Double Roasters, with indoor and outdoor seating, with a pavilion that opens to a sunken garden.

We also love that the new library has recycled some of the original, conserved heritage elements of the main hospital building into the new design.

The Grand Opening

The library officially opened on 31 August at 313 Marrickville Road, (Corner of Marrickville and Livingstone Road) Marrickville.
