The Australian Premiere of Beauty and The Beast is Coming to Sydney

Disney's Beauty and the Beast is coming to Sydney's Capitol Theatre in June 2023 for its Australian premiere!
The Sydney Morning Herald has today confirmed the big cultural win for Sydney. And according to government and theatre industry sources, an Australian cast has already auditioned for Beauty and the Beast.
'Beauty and the Beast' is coming to Sydney!
It was announced on Thursday by NSW Arts and Tourism Minister Ben Franklin. Franklin described the musical as a "global sensation" that had sold 35 million tickets worldwide.
You don't need to tell us twice! Beauty and The Beast is undoubtedly one of the most popular family movies of all time - in many ways still just as relevant today as it was when it was first released back in 1991.
It's well known that NSW and Victoria (more specifically, Melbourne and Sydney) have fierce competition for major musical theatre openings. In the past, the Herald and The Age reported that former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian personally intervened to secure the premiere of Broadway's smash hit Hamilton for Sydney. Word is that the bidding for this show was just as fierce, but Sydney siders are thrilled to have won the show.
Beauty and The Beast has lent itself to many reincarnations over the past 30 years and is one of Disney Theatrical's most successful productions. A tour of over 40 countries has taken the show to 35 million people around the world since its Broadway debut in 1994.
The Australian production starred some of our most beloved Australian Actors and Actresses, with Hugh Jackman starring as Gaston, Bert Newton as Cogsworth, and Rachel Beck as Belle in the 1996 Broadway production at Melbourne's Princess Theatre. We can't forget, of course, the sensational live-action Beauty and the Beast in 2017, staring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast. This version is still one of Disney's most successful live-action remakes to date.
