Blacktown Aquatic Centre Gets a Massive $77.2m Makeover

Big changes are making waves in Western Sydney, with the Renewed Blacktown Aquatic Centre set to deliver a refreshed swimming and recreation experience for families. Having long been the busiest of Blacktown City Council's five swimming venues, it is now getting the glow-up it truly deserves!

This impressive $77.2 million overhaul of the existing facility is one of seven transformational projects funded through the New South Wales Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) program. With expanded swimming spaces, upgraded amenities and improved family facilities, the renewed centre is all about giving the growing Blacktown community an accessible option to learn, move and enjoy the water.

Construction kicks off in early 2026, with the renewed centre set to open in mid-2027. Blacktown City Council offers three alternative swimming venues for locals during the development period, including Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope, Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre Emerton and Riverstone Swimming Centre.

More Pools, More Space, More Fun

For kids who love spending weekends poolside or parents searching for quality swimming lessons, the Renewed Blacktown Aquatic Centre is bringing more opportunities to dive in.

The upgraded facility will include:

  • A new indoor 50 metre swimming pool
  • A new 25 metre program pool for learn-to-swim programs
  • Refurbishment of the existing 50 metre outdoor pool
  • Inclusive amenities and changerooms
  • A splashpad extension
  • Refurbished multi-purpose fitness and program rooms
  • New café, foyer and reception spaces
  • Improved landscaping and outdoor areas

With additional swimming spaces and upgraded facilities, families will have more room to enjoy recreational swimming, expert-led classes and fitness activities all year round.

A Brand New Indoor 50 Metre Pool

One of the headline additions is a brand new indoor 50 metre swimming pool for year-round swimming, regardless of what Sydney's weather is doing. For recreational swimmers, squad training, or families who just want a big stretch of water to splash around in, this is a genuine game-changer for the area. No more waiting for a sunny day to make a proper outing of it.

Learn-to-Swim for Local Kids

Another standout addition is the new 25-metre program pool, a purpose-built space designed specifically to deliver high-quality learn-to-swim programs that build confidence and water safety skills. Separate from the main lap pool, it offers a more relaxed experience for parents and little swimmers.

Swimming is a vital life skill for Australian children, and having access to top-notch facilities in their neighbourhood makes a real difference for busy families.

The Outdoor Pool & Splashpad Gets a Refresh

The existing 50 metre outdoor pool is being fully refurbished as part of the renewal, so the classic outdoor swimming experience Blacktown families already love will be even better on the other side of the works.

The splashpad is getting an extension, ready for toddlers to absolutely lose their minds with joy and offering extra space for water play and family fun.

More Family-Friendly Spaces

The Renewed Blacktown Aquatic Centre promises upgraded communal spaces with inclusive amenities and changerooms, making the whole experience more accessible and comfortable for families of all kinds. A new café, refreshed foyer and reception areas, plus improved landscaping and outdoor spaces, are all designed to create a more welcoming and functional environment.

There are also refurbished multi-purpose fitness and program rooms for those who want to squeeze in a workout alongside the swimming.

Supporting a Growing Western Sydney Community

Conveniently located close to Blacktown city centre, the renewed facility is designed to improve access to quality swimming and active recreation opportunities without families needing to travel far.

Mayor Brad Bunting highlighted the importance of the project for local residents:

"We want to encourage people to learn to swim and enjoy the water close to home, and we can only do that by providing a first-class venue. Blacktown Aquatic Centre is the busiest of Council’s five swimming venues, so we want to make sure that when people come here, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy."

For families in Blacktown, Rooty Hill, Seven Hills, Marayong, Quakers Hill, and the broader Western Sydney region, this is a facility that will be genuinely worth the trip, right on your doorstep.

A New Chapter for Blacktown Aquatic Centre

The Renewed Blacktown Aquatic Centre is shaping up to be a major community asset for Western Sydney, combining upgraded pools, accessible amenities and inviting shared spaces in one destination.

Whether it’s swimming lessons, splashpad fun, fitness programs, or simply enjoying time together by the water, this renewed local favourite is set to make staying active and connected easier for families across Blacktown, now and into the future.
