QR Codes & Hand Sanitiser Now at Playgrounds & Outdoor Gyms

  • All Ages

QR codes and hand sanitisers have been installed at all Randwick Council playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gyms and all we can say is, finally!

As of Friday, 27 August more than 67 outdoor locations in the Randwick Council will have QR codes and hand sanitiser for patrons to check in and do their bit to follow safe COVID-19 practices. While we're thrilled that new levels of protection such as these are available for the community, we can't help but wonder, why haven't these protocols always been in place?

Sydney Playgrounds With QR Codes

Unlike with the Victoria lockdown, most Sydney playgrounds are still currently open (with the exception of playgrounds in Blacktown), and, for some Sydney parents, provide some desperately-needed respite to being stuck at home with energy-fueled kids all day every day. While for other Sydney parents, the thought of taking the kids to a playground with no QR codes is much too daunting as it puts them and their little loves at a huge risk if they should come into contact with someone with COVID.

Thanks to Randwick Council, this is no longer the case for Sydney families visiting playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gyms in this LGA, with QR codes in place at all outdoor facilities giving parents extra peace of mind that they'll be contacted if they should come into contact with a positive COVID-19 case while enjoying some outdoor recreation.

According to Randwick Mayor, Danny Said, “The combination of lockdown and homeschooling has highlighted just how important our playgrounds and outdoor gyms are for so many of us. Having access to areas that allow us time outside, in the fresh air, and that encourage play and physical activity is a lifeline for some and we’re keen to keep these spaces safe and open for as long as we can."

Now if only more council playgrounds in Sydney would do the same!
