Little Snappers: Sydney Shown Through Little Sydney Lives Photo Competition 2022

Strap in for a beautiful, cute and quirky take on Sydney living! 

Twenty images captured by our city’s youngest photographers have been selected as finalists in the annual Little Sydney Lives photography competition. 

And get this, these images were captured by children aged just 3 to 12 years old. The talent these children already possess leaves us speechless!  

Twenty Finalists Announced In The Little Sydney Lives Photo Competition for 2022

We can't imagine how difficult it would have been for the judges to select their top twenty images. The panel of judges comprising of artist Atong Atem, photographer Sam Ferris and curator Sebastian Goldspink sifted through dozens of entries to choose the finalists in two categories – 3 to 7-year-olds and 8 to 12-year-olds.

From 15 September to 9 October, all 20 finalist images will be exhibited in Sandringham Gardens, Hyde Park, curated by photographer Sandy Edwards.

Blue Tongue Basking
I took this photo because I couldn't believe a blue tongue lizard was sunbathing in Mummy's flip flops! This would only happen in Australia! The blue tongue lizard looks very comfortable!

A special corner of Hyde Park has been lit up for 11 years with the Little Sydney Lives exhbition, according to Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

“I have always loved the snaps captured by our city’s young photographers and the joy the exhibition brings to visitors as they pass through Hyde Park," she explains.

“It’s wonderful to see children tap into their creative side and show us what their take on Sydney life is.

“And it’s very exciting that this year we also have two siblings whose images have been selected as finalists.”

“This year’s selection for Little Sydney Lives is as vibrant and entertaining as ever,” exhibition curator Sandy Edwards said.

“Little Sydney Lives continues to prove that there are budding photographers everywhere and that our connection to the world and our hearts is reflected in the world of imagery everywhere around us.”

There will be winners announced in each age category at the opening of the exhibition on 15 September. A $500 prize will be awarded to each winner in the form of photography equipment and accessories.
