Darling Harbour is the ultimate destination for a family day out - and after a day full of all the play, walking and attractions, you're going to need FOOD. Skip the overpriced tourist traps and head to one one of these fail-safe family-friendly dining/dessert joints instead, sure to end the day's adventure on a high note.

Fratelli Fresh

In the heart of Darling Harbour, find the new buzzing Fratelli location with the red and white umbrellas right under the ICC. There's something for everyone at this epic Italian emporium, complete with a pizza kitchen, fresh pasta station AND a house-made dessert and gelato counter. Did we mention kids under 12 eat FREE here EVERY day?! The offer applies between 12 and 3pm (at all Fratelli restaurants, when accompanied by one paying adult), and there's a great Kids Menu for even the fussiest of eaters...Nonna's Meatballs are a must! ICC Sydney Theatre, Darling Drive, Darling Harbour

Betty's Burgers & Concrete Co.

Come to this 50s retro burger shack for the famous 'Concretes' - custard ice cream with all the mix-ins...think Cookie Butter, Peanut Brittle, Glazed Donut and raspberries to balance it out. Pre-dessert, there's an extensive burger menu with all the classics, a Kids Burger option and something for every adult taste, vegans and low carbers included. e04/14 Darling Dr, Sydney

Nok Nok Thai Eating House

You'll find all the Thai classics, family-style fare and Bangkok-style bites here (spring rolls, curry puffs, chicken satay and all the other usual suspects), perfect for little fingers! Hot chips are on the menu too so even the fussiest of eaters will be happy. Sit back at a comfy booth or communal table under the hanging plants, or out on the terrace on a nice day. 1-25 Harbour St, Sydney

Grill'd Harbourside

Nothing beats Grill'd for healthier and droolworthy burger options...and the best sweet potato fries! We like that they do wholemeal buns (their gluten free buns are also surprisingly delicious), plus plenty veggie toppings, and simple menu items to keep the kids happy: The Beef or Chicken Burger Mini Me Packs come with a mini chips and your choice of water or juice, and there are also 'For Big Kids' Burgers for larger appetites. Level 2 Harbourside, Darling Harbour

Danieli Cafe

A chilled out kiosk right next to the playground in Darling Quarter, head to Danieli's for your coffee fix and some Italian-inspired post-play fuel in the fresh air. There's everything from freshly-made paninis and gourmet hot dogs to soups, salads and sweet treats here, with plenty options for the little ones. Kiosk 1, 1-25 Harbour Street, Darling Quarter

Eat8Bit

Sit back with a burger while the kids play at this Melbourne-born 50s American-style diner meets 80s gaming arcade. It's all about Space Invader games, old-school burgers and loaded fries at the Darling Square location, and the hot dogs and potato gems will be a hit with the kids. 51 Tumbalong Boulevard, Haymarket

Gelatissimo

What better way to end a family day in Darling Harbour than with ice cream with an epic Sydney Harbour view! You can't go wrong with the mountains of Italian-style gelato here, and there are loads of fun flavours and sprinkle-coated cones for the kids. 2/1-25 Harbour Street, Darling Harbour
