A Joyful Start to Learning: Discover IGS’s New Kindergarten Centre
A Purpose-Built Haven for Little Learners
Designed with imagination, confidence and joy at its core, the New IGS Kindergarten Centre spans two levels of the Wright Building and includes access to the school’s leafy outdoor Peace Garden. It’s all part of IGS’s bold Into the World Strategic Plan - a vision to reimagine learning spaces and spark a lifelong love of learning in even the tiniest of students.
Play, Explore, Slide!
Every detail of the new Centre has been shaped with children in mind. Flexible learning spaces? Tick. Tactile, natural materials? Tick. A one-of-a-kind indoor slide? Absolutely! Yes, you read that right - there’s a slide inside the classroom. And it’s not just a design quirk. It’s the joyful result of a student’s wish from over a decade ago. That very same student, now in Year 12, was the first to give it a whirl at the Centre’s opening - a full-circle moment that perfectly sums up IGS’s commitment to listening to young voices.
Architecture with Heart and History
The Kindergarten Centre was brought to life by the award-winning Australian architects at BVN. Their design honours the site’s rich cultural and ecological past, with natural textures and flowing forms inspired by the area’s origins as a creek and community gathering place for the Gadigal people. The space even reflects elements of First Nations practices, including the use of gentle storytelling curves reminiscent of possum skin cloaks, a beautiful nod to belonging, culture and connection to Country.
See It for Yourself at a Kindergarten Open Morning
Families considering Kindergarten for 2026 are invited to experience the magic in person at one of IGS’s exclusive Open Mornings. Hosted by Head of Kindergarten to Year 2, Julia Preece and Deputy Head of Primary School Gerard Elms, these intimate sessions are a fantastic way to explore the new space, meet the passionate teaching team and learn more about how IGS supports children to flourish from day one.
Explore a thoughtfully designed, child-first learning environment that celebrates play, curiosity and community. Open Mornings are running now, and spots for 2026 are filling fast.
