The Butter Board Basics
The rule of butter boards is that there are no rules. The sky is the limit when it comes to toppings—you could go savoury with pickles, salsas and herbs, or sweet with honey, crushed nuts and fruit.
All you need is a board, some butter (ok lots of butter), a plan of attack surrounding your toppings and you’re ready for action.
How to Create a Butter Board
One of the many (many) reasons we love a butter board: they’re seriously easy to make, yet a serious crowd pleaser at the same time. To make a butter board:
- Grab a board and some softened butter (the jury’s out on whether unsalted or salted is best—but if you’re adding salty toppings it might be best to err on the unsalted side for now).
- Use a butter knife to spread the butter in swirls or wide strokes all over your board.
- Artfully arrange your toppings on top of the butter.
- Slice some bread.
- Dig in!
