Botany❜s Ultimate Adventure Playground: Sir Joseph Banks Park

Parents and kiddos, it's time to put on your adventure hats! Botany's can't get enough of this one-of-a-kind, multi-million-dollar playground right in the heart of Sir Joseph Banks Park.

This whimsical adventure playspace, inspired by the creative minds of local children, was brought to life thanks to a $2.5 million grant from the NSW Government's Legacy Grant program, a $250,000 grant from the NSW Government's Open Spaces Program - Places to Play, and a further $200,000 from Sydney Airport for lush landscaping.

A Playground Designed by Kids, for Kids 

Bayside Council Mayor Christina Curry couldn't hide her excitement as she shared, "This mind-blowing adventure playground, shaped through extensive community consultation and feedback, will be a must-visit hotspot for our families for generations to come."

To ensure this playground was nothing less than a dream come true, the Council organised on-site workshops to gather feedback directly from the most important critics: local children. 

Mayor Curry explained, "The engagement for Sir Joseph Banks regional play facility was intentionally focused on the children so we got the design right. Their feedback helped our designers to shape and tailor the adventure playground in a truly fun and engaging way."

The playground is a 5,200 sqm wonderland that brings the children's wildest ideas to life. It's a delightful blend of nature play, custom and proprietary play equipment, sound and sensory experiences, all set in a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere. The pièce de résistance is a jaw-dropping shell-shaped play tower with a mound slide that takes advantage of the natural landform. 

Unveiling the Playground's Highlights

This not only fulfils the children's dreams of something "big with slides" but also provides an exciting centrepiece for the playground.

The playground has something for everyone, offering spaces for both younger and older children, with areas for quiet and active play.

Kiddos can expect a play tower with a high inclined log climb, two high slides, climbing nets, trampolines, lower slides for the little ones, timber balance and agility equipment, rock scrambling and climbing walls, a flying fox, musical play, sandstone art, and sensory play items. All of these delights are nestled among beautifully landscaped areas, perfect for nature play.

Located at Sir Joseph Banks Park, the historic site of Australia's first zoological gardens, families can also enjoy an array of recreational facilities such as walking trails, bushland, bush regeneration areas, bush tucker gardens, ponds supporting native fauna, basketball (half court), picnic and BBQ facilities, and an off-leash dog park.
