Think back to the time before you had kids and you could spontaneously decide to go out for dinner. For a start, you had no one else to worry about, but also you could afford it! Despite the fact you have dependants, eating out with kids can still be something that won't break the bank.

There are more and more places popping up that cater for kids, offer great food and let the little ones get their meal on the house.

Fish Kitchen, Dutton Park

Established over 30 years ago, Fish Kitchen is a favourite among locals. And with good reason. Going beyond a fish & chip shop, Fish Kitchen provides the friendly service of a local chippie, with restaurant quality dining.

Fully licensed, the restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and a menu that goes far beyond on your battered cod. Rainbow trout, seafood chowder, fish tacos and mussels, all served with the best chips this side of Brisbane.

There are gluten free options available and all kids eat free on Tuesdays.

Hogs Breath Cafe, Several Locations

An oldie but a goodie, Hogs Breath is an institution in Queensland. Known for their great steaks and comfortable settings, it’s little wonder the chain is a favourite for families.

The super kid friendly restaurant treats kids to free meals every Monday & Tuesday night. The kids menu has nuggets, pasta and their famous curly fries.

There are several locations all around Brisbane, you won’t have to go far to find one near you. Heads up, I would skip lunch before going as they have very generous portions. You more than get your moneys worth.

Beach House, Browns Plains

We live on the largest island in the world and Beach House celebrates our beach culture with a themed bar. In the heart of Browns Plains, this restaurant offers a large open dining area to enjoy the Brisbane balmy nights. For plan B, there’s undercover area for those stormy nights.

The best thing about Beach House is that their kids eat free offer is on Sunday’s. What a great option if you’re exhausted, couldn’t be bothered doing the groceries or just fancy kicking the week off right by letting someone else cook.

They have a great menu with sumptuous steaks, seafood and plenty of kid friendly option. The bar is fully stocked with all your favourite tipples.

Pepe’s, Jindalee

Mexican is a crowd pleaser at our place, and the only thing better than Mexican food, is when someone else does all the cooking and washing up. The guys at Pepe’s are all about giving parents a break mid-week and offer free kids meals on Wednesday’s at Jindalee.

Pepe’s know their stuff given that they have been going strong for 45 years. In fact, they opened Brisbane’s first Mexican restaurant. With all that experience up their sleeve, you know you’re in for a treat.

Their Taquitos are possibly the greatest in the country. If that’s not your vibe, they have a range of other Mexican delights, plus mini tacos and burritos for the kids. If the kids aren’t keen on Mexican, they got you covered with chips and nuggets so you can still tuck into some great food.

Tomato Brothers, Wilston

I’m almost certain that pizza is one of the major food groups. If it’s not, we need to recognise it as one. For lovers of pizza and all the carby goodness you can think of, Tomato Brothers are the business.

As well as pasta (the chicken boscaila is heavenly), risotto and a load of starters, the pizza selection reigns supreme; seafood, meat, spicy, veg, chicken, all your favourite toppings made into a mouth-watering fresh from the wood fire oven.

Bring your own bottle of wine*, grab the kids and enjoy a delicious feast of Italian food.

Bavarian Beerhaus, Bowen Hills

Every Sunday from 11am – 4pm, kids eat free while their parents can enjoy beer by the stein. The Bavarian Beerhaus is an experience. A quirky and fun bier house inspired by the German love of all things ale. The Bavarian Beerhaus has an impressive line up of craft beers, imported beers and beers you’ve never heard, served in glasses as big as your child.

That’s not the only thing served generously. The food portions are equally large, so be sure your appetite matches your thirst.

The kids will delight in the Kinder Menu with favourites like mac’n’cheese, schnitzel and little brat dog (aka hot dogs).
