The Top 10 Places In The World To Spend New Year❜s Eve Revealed And This Australian City Took The Top Spot

  • All Ages

Whether you spend it at home on the couch or a picnic rug under the stars, watching fireworks - New Year's Eve is the Big Show for celebrations.

So it's understandable then that cities, towns, states and even countries get pretty competitive when it comes to who can give the last year the biggest send-off and the brightest ringing-in of a fresh start, the new year.

Sydneysiders know there is no better place to be than right here and that the Harbour fireworks are second to none!

Just look at this view!

Well, they are actually not just second to some... but 5th. But hey, on the bright side, that ranking is 5th out of 100, so that's something to be proud of.

There is just one other thing we need to let you know, one of our very own Australian capital cities beat us out for the top spot.

Melbourne has been ranked as the number 1 best place in the WORLD to spend New Year's Eve. Surely, there must be some mistake? (sorry, Melbournians).

We can see why people love Melbourne.

The (somewhat questionable, according to this writer) list has been put together by the travel experts at the Big Seven Travel, who surveyed over 1.5 Million people from around the world to find the best place to spend New Year's Eve in 2022.

Here are the top ten spots:

  1. Melbourne – Australia
  2. Toronto – Canada
  3. Cape Town – South Africa
  4. Nashville – United States
  5. Sydney – Australia
  6. Paris – France
  7. New Orleans – United States
  8. Singapore - Singapore
  9. New York – United States
  10. Taipei – Taiwan

Australia was well represented in the top 50, with Adelaide coming in at number 24, Brisbane at 36 and even little old Byron Bay making an appearance at 40.

As Sydneysider (in case the bias wasn't already apparent), I'd argue that two towns in NSW making the top 50 are better than taking out the top spot, but look, as long as we are happy and spending time with people we love it sounds like a pretty special New Year's Eve.

Where do you think should have been number 1?
