The Best Burgers in Melbourne

  • All Ages

If you’re on the ellaslist wavelength, you’ll probably agree that burgers are the MVP of food groups. We reckon there’s nothing not to love about a flavour-packed patty and cheese smushed between a bun and adorned with all manner of attendant items (and by that we mean the unsung heroes of the piece—the pickles, relishes, spicy sauces and beyond!).

Burgers in Melbourne are a firm forever favourite in most households we know, so we’re here to dish the dirt on where to get the very best burgers in Melbourne.

The Best Burgers in Melbourne

1. Royal Stacks

Inspired by US burger giant Shake Shack, Royal Stacks has brought some of that quintessential American burger culture to Melbourne, and the results across the five Royal Stacks restaurants speak for themselves.

100% Australian beef is a stalwart on the menu, and local produce is used wherever possible. The selection on offer is utterly mouth-watering, and if we had to pick one, we’d suggest you opt for the Dandenong Grammar, which boasts two patties, double Swiss cheese, caramelised onion and truffle mayo. Drool!

Location: Multiple across Melbourne—see Royal Stacks Locations for details.

2. Betty’s Burgers

Betty's Burgers Melbourne
An icon of the burger scene, Betty's Burgers are just perfect—every, single, time.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, we’re willing to bet you don’t need us to give you the Betty’s Burgers spiel.

There are multiple locations across Melbourne, and each of them serves up the same fresh, juicy burgers, sides and shakes that the brand is so well-known for, making them one of our favourite spots for the best burgers in Melbourne.

We can’t move past a Classic at Betty’s, served as is with Angus beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese and special sauce. For the little ones, there are some equally as delicious options to please the young customers!

3. 300 Grams

300 Grams Burgers
300 Grams is a drool-worthy choice for the best burgers in Melbourne!

With a shop in both Northcote and Coburg, 300 Grams is a popular pick for the best burgers in Melbourne.

Their secret to such delicious burgers? A ‘smash’ patty, which is then pressed onto the grill until crispy. Our choice is the Hot Bird - Southern fried chicken, cheese, slaw and chilli mayo. Lots of the 300 Grams burgers can be made vegan with a plant-based or a vegan fried-chicken patty, making it an ultra-inclusive choice whatever your dietary requirements.

Locations:
Northcote - 313 High Street, Northcote
Coburg - 91 Gaffney Street, Coburg

4. Easey’s

For some of the best burgers in Melbourne plus hotdogs, loaded fries and a drool-worthy array of sides (lookin’ at you corn ribs and Mac n cheese bites!), served in a novel and unique location, look no further than Easey’s.

Situated five stories up in a rooftop train carriage overlooking Melbourne city, Easey’s draws a huge crowd thanks to the view, but it’s the burgers that keep people coming back. The Oklahoma Fried Onion Cheeseburger is a popular pick, and we’ll take a portion of Chilli Cheese fries while we’re at it, thanks!

Location: 48 Easey Street, Collingwood

5. Arbory Bar and Eatery

Arbory Bar & Eatery
For a sit-down burger in a stunning Melbourne location, look no further than Arbory Bar & Eatery.

Arbory is a vibrant outdoor bar situated between the Yarra River and Flinders Street Station, at the beating heart of Melbourne’s coveted riverside arts and entertainment precinct. And the burgers? They’re a real hit, and part of a bigger menu, which makes it a great place to visit with burger-lovers and non-burger lovers alike.

The Crumbed Mushroom and Halloumi burger is a treat and served with crinkle-cut chips for a fun finish!

Location: Flinders Walk, Melbourne

6. Metro Burgers

Situated on the ultra-popular Degraves Street, Metro Burgers is a cool, inner-city hangout with a diverse and delicious menu, plus some of the best burgers in Melbourne.

Our go-to is the Lamb Burger - fresh lamb tenderloin with tzatziki, French mustard, mixed salad, tomato and red onion. Delicious.

Location: 12 Degraves Street, Melbourne

7. Mr Burger

Mr Burger Melbourne
A staple Melbourne burger joint, Mr Burger gets it right every time!

With roving food trucks and permanent venues across Melbourne and Hobart, Mr Burger boasts a menu of some of the best burgers in Melbourne.

The Mr Double is pretty hard to move past - packing double the beef, bacon and cheese into one bun with lashings of Trucker Sauce; the top-secret MVP of the Mr Burger lineup.
