Aussie vitamin giant Blackmores is under fire, with a class action looming over claims that some of its supplements may have contained dangerously high levels of vitamin B6, leaving hundreds of users with lasting side effects.
Vitamin B6 in Hot Water: Popular Aussie Supplement Brand Faces Legal Heat Over 'Toxic' Doses
At the centre of the case is Melbourne dad-to-be Dominic Noonan-O’Keeffe, who says he took the supplements to prep for parenthood but ended up with debilitating nerve issues instead.
One magnesium product reportedly packed a whopping 29 times the recommended daily B6 dose, turning an essential vitamin into a not-so-healthy headache.
Symptoms of B6 toxicity? Think burning, tingling, muscle spasms, nerve pain and serious fatigue—not exactly the wellness outcome most of us are after.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has already issued warnings and tightened rules around B6 supplements, including new label requirements and dose limits. But lawyers say more needs to be done, and that many Aussies may be unknowingly overdosing through everyday products.
Blackmores says it complies with all current TGA regulations and will follow any new rules when finalised.
If you've been taking B6-heavy vitamins and feeling a little... off, you’re not alone—and you might want to chat with your doctor (or your lawyer)...
