An Early Education Sector ❛shutdown❜ Is Happening Wednesday And Here❜s What You Need To Know

7 September is known around the country for many as Early Childhood Educators Day. This year on Wednesday, 7 September, Childcare centres across the country will be participating in a "shutdown" of the early education sector tomorrow. The United Workers Union (UWU) is emphasizing this is not a strike but a shutdown and is asking parents not to bring their children into their childcare centres tomorrow.

The workers' demands around the shutdown are the following, as reported by the ABC.

1. Give us a reason to stay and pay us what we are worth

2.Value early learning as part of the education system, just as important as schools

3. Put children before profit

How do I know if my Childcare Provider is Impacted?

"Parents should talk to their early educators to see if the action is impacting their centre and room," UWU early education director Helen Gibbons told the ABX.

"There are lots of different arrangements in place," Ms Gibbons said.

"The best way to know what is happening at your service is to contact them."

The UWU says hundreds of centres across the country will be participating and estimates up to 30,000 families could be affected.
