The bush is back in town – and on our minds, thanks to Bush, an Australiana hole-in-the-wall that opened recently in Redfern. The most succinct way to describe the restaurant is: small but mighty.

The Menu Of Australiana

With its curry roo pies, simple cheeseburgers, and fairy bread & butter pudding, Bush shows that you don’t need an excessive menu to have people drooling, queuing and wanting to come back for seconds.

Some gourmands may know Grant Lawn, the owner and the main cook at Bush, as he previously served his delicious treats at various popups around Sydney (The Meat Emporium or Young Henry’s). But now he has finally decided to put down roots and he chose Redfern as his home base. “We are all about bringing life, green, truth and happiness to people” – says Lawn unassumingly.

Bush reinterprets some of the Australian icons: pies, kangaroo meat and fairy bread, and serves them with a sweet sauce of nostalgia. The restaurant features a courtyard space, handmade communal tables and some good selection of plush Aussie animals, too.
