Weekends are a precious commodity. While only short, it’s easy to make the most of your days by planning ahead. Tangalooma Island Resort is an action packed weekender’s haven.  Located just a 75 minute ferry ride from Brisbane, Tangalooma is the ultimate day trip that will satisfy your urge for adventure without having to take any time off work, or hang on until the next school holidays.

From snorkelling, to beach bike riding and feeding wild dolphins, Tangalooma is the perfect escape.  We’ve broken down the top five experiences on offer at Tangalooma that you can tick off in one day.

Snorkel the Tangalooma Wrecks

The Tangalooma Wrecks are undoubtedly one of Australia’s most scenic snorkelling locations. Travel through time and explore the 15 sunken vessels in the crystal clear water. Scuttled by the Queensland Government between 1963 and 1984 to provide a safe harbour on Moreton Island, the wreckage is now home to hundreds of marine species creating a spectacular underwater world just for you.

Protected from harsh winds and big swells, the wrecks are suitable for snorkelers of all levels. For those on the snorkelling tour, you will be taken out to the wrecks by boat so no need to battle the currents to get out there alone.

Quad Biking

Name a better way to explore kilometres of untouched pristine beaches! Moreton Island is full of coves, untouched beaches and bush tracks in and around Tangalooma you can traverse and skid whilst experiencing the thrill of an ATV quad bike.

Home to arguably the best dedicated ATV quad bike tracks in Australia, the bikes are a great way to get around. Under the guidance of an experienced guide, you can explore all the wonders of the island with a bit of extra thrill.

Sand Tobogganing

If you’re looking for a break from the water, sand tobogganing could be just the activity for you. Tangalooma is home to spectacular golden sand dunes perfect for tobogganing, sand boarding or going for a hike. Reach up to speeds of 40 km as you catch a wave of a different sort! Hit the slopes on your own, or book a desert safari tour and 4WD to the best sandy spots.

Transparent Night Kayaking

As the sun sets, see the reef in a whole new light. The transparent night kayaks are specially designed, with illuminating lighting that reveals the beauty of the underwater world beneath your very feet.

This once in a lifetime experience will offer you unparalleled views of the abundance of reef fish, turtles, stingrays and wobbegongs that frequent the water.  This is the perfect way to end a jam packed day of adventure.

Feeding Wild Dolphins

One of the most unique experiences you can do at Tangalooma is wild dolphin feeding. Operating every evening at sunset, the Dolphin Care Team run the program that is unlike anything else.

Learn about the pod and the amazing relationship they have with the EcoMarines and the long history behind this wonderful tradition. Meet the regulars like Silhouette, Betts and Luna during a night that you and your family won’t forget anytime soon.

Our top tip is to book the 7am ferry from Brisbane to ensure you can fit in as many of these activities as possible on your visit to Tangalooma Island Resort.
