After a year of huge renovations, the Australian Museum will reopen its doors on 28 November 2020.

The $57.5 million redevelopment of the nearly 200-year-old museum known as Project Discover has delivered tremendous outcomes that will be enjoyed by guests for generations to come: redesigned gathering spaces, expanded galleries, more of our collection on display, a new shop, a second café, a renovated Members Lounge and updated amenities.

A visit to The Australian Museum is a wonderful family day out, this large museum houses everything from dinosaurs to insects and everything in between so you’ll find plenty here to keep kids of all ages busy for hours and hours. Kids love exploring the dimly lit corridors filled with life-sized prehistoric animals and the Sky high T-Rex will thrill your little dino lovers with the occasional roar.

This summer the world’s most feared dinosaur, Tyrannosaurus rex, comes crashing out the Cretaceous and into the new blockbuster gallery at the Australian Museum. Come face-to-face with a life-sized T. rex, run for your life in a virtual experience, you can even hatch a dino egg in this interactive exhibition.

The Museum also offers great, low-cost school holiday activities with quality shows and interactive workshops. Little ones will love the Prehistoric Playground, a brand-new stomping ground for Sydney's smallest dinosaur buffs.
