The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah is a beautiful 90minute drive from Sydney. This breathtaking Garden is the only botanic garden in the world located in a World Heritage Area. Focused on the conservation of cool climate plants it is home to 21,000 plants and 900 species, including the Jurassic Wollemi Pine.
There are so many things for your little explorers to do including:
Self-Guided Treasure Quest
Every season they produce a new self-guided tour for children and families. Using a map, they explore the Garden to find five stops. At each trail stop they discover fun facts linking plants and people through stories about science and culture. Children collect clues and complete hands-on activities that encourage and enable them to engage with plants and the wider Garden and Mountain environments.
Each school holiday they offer a new Educator-lead holiday program on a plant-related theme. The program is a 2-hour session and includes a guided sensory discovery walk through part of the Garden, and hands-on gardening and craft activities to make take-home items.
The Wild Play Area is currently under development, following the model successfully implemented at both Centennial Park and the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. Children will be encouraged to engage with nature through physical, creative and imaginative play around features such as logs, dry creek-bed and boulders as well as access to a natural bush area. The area will be designed for use by general visitors as well as utilised as part of new holiday and schools programming.
They offer a range of programs for Primary and Secondary schools. These are closely linked to the curricula, covering outcomes for Science and Technology, Geography, Food Technology, and Biology. All the lessons are led by their highly trained teachers who are skilled at engaging students in outdoor learning experiences.
