Melbourne❜s First Area 51 Playground is Landing in Port Melbourne
Melbourne families, get ready for a seriously exciting new indoor adventure! Area 51 World is officially heading to Port Melbourne, bringing its supersized brand of climbing, bouncing, sliding and high-energy fun to Victoria for the very first time.
The new Area 51 Port Melbourne is scheduled to launch in April 2027, with the team promising a fresh, world-class family entertainment centre for Melbourne families to explore. And if Area 51's existing interstate venues are anything to go by, this could be one very big addition to Melbourne’s indoor play scene.
What is Area 51 World?
Forget your average indoor play centre. Area 51 World specialises in enormous, space-themed family entertainment centres packed with active adventures for kids.
The Australian brand currently operates venues across Queensland and NSW, from smaller indoor play centres to its whopping 10,000-square-metre Underwood venue. Depending on the location, Area 51 attractions can include trampolines, mega slides, ninja courses, climbing walls, high ropes, giant inflatables, toddler areas, interactive games, VR experiences and even indoor snow attractions.
Importantly, every Area 51 venue is different, so the exact mix of attractions coming to Port Melbourne is yet to be revealed.
What Can Families Expect at Area 51 Port Melbourne?
This is the part we're very keen to hear more about!
Area 51 has confirmed its Port Melbourne location will be a new family entertainment centre, but it hasn't announced the full attraction line-up yet. Based on the brand's other centres, however, Melbourne families can reasonably expect plenty of opportunities to climb, jump, crawl, race and slide their way through the space.
Some of their larger venues cater for everyone from toddlers through to bigger kids, teens and even adults, while others are designed specifically for children aged 12 and under. Attractions are allocated by age, height, and sometimes weight, depending on the activity.
We'll be watching closely to see whether Melbourne scores some of its signature headline attractions, such as high ropes, climbing arenas, ninja courses, VR experiences, or Snow World.
There Could Be Plenty For Little Kids, Too
Parents with preschoolers needn't assume Area 51 is only for fearless big kids. Existing locations feature dedicated toddler spaces for their smallest adventurers, alongside soft-play areas, slides and age-appropriate activities.
Exactly which ages Area 51 Port Melbourne will cater for hasn't been confirmed, so we'll update the details once the Melbourne venue's individual play zones are announced.
Birthday Parties That Are Out of This World
Area 51 also does birthday parties BIG. Across its existing venues, party packages can include playtime, a private party room, a party host, grip socks, food and a personalised birthday message, with optional extras depending on the location.
Port Melbourne's party offering is still under wraps, but if it follows the Area 51 formula, Melbourne parents may soon have another seriously fun option for energetic birthday crews.
When is Area 51 Port Melbourne Opening?
The countdown is officially on: Area 51 Port Melbourne is expected to open in April 2027.
It will be Area 51's first Victorian location, following the brand's expansion from Queensland into NSW.
Where Will Area 51 Port Melbourne Be?
Area 51 has confirmed Port Melbourne as its new Victorian home, but it hasn't yet announced the exact street address.
The location puts the new centre close to Melbourne's CBD and should make it an especially handy all-weather option for inner-city and bayside families.
We'll be keeping an eye on Area 51 Port Melbourne as more details drop, particularly that all-important attraction list. With Area 51 already operating centres featuring everything from trampolines and mega slides to climbing walls, ninja courses and snow play, April 2027 suddenly feels a long way away!
