Halloween at the Old Melbourne Gaol

The Old Melbourne Gaol will come to life after dark this Halloween, opening its doors to those who dare to experience the Gaol’s mysterious history at night.

Renowned for holding some of Australia’s most notorious criminals, including the infamous Ned Kelly, the Old Melbourne Gaol will allow visitors beyond its bluestone walls for one night only to experience life behind bars during the dead of the night.

The scene of 133 hangings between 1842 and 1929, the Gaol’s gruesome history has contributed to a number of unexplained presences and ghostly sightings reported in recent years.

Visitors to the Gaol this Halloween will have the chance to have their own eerie encounters – explore the haunted cells of prisoners past, wander the quiet hallways, listen for the creak of the Hangman’s rope, and hear tales of spooky spirits and sightings from the Gaol’s team of knowledgeable guides.

The Old Melbourne Gaol will also offer its immersive ‘A Night at the Watch House’ experience on Halloween to a limited number of people aged 16 and over, with bookings required in advance.
