Cats and Dogs Exhibition at the NGV
Showcasing more than 250 works from the NGV Collection, this vibrant display explores the timeless bond between humans and their beloved pets. You’ll find everything from ancient artworks to contemporary pieces by famous names like Rembrandt, Goya, David Hockney, Jeff Koons, Atong Atem, Grace Cossington Smith, and many more.
The exhibition is split into two sides — cats and dogs — and dives into the rich cultural stories, myths, symbolism, and popular culture surrounding our furry companions. Expect paintings, prints, photography, textiles, sculpture, fashion, and decorative arts from across Australia, Europe, Asia and North America, all celebrating the charm and personality of cats and dogs.
Whether you’re an art lover, an animal lover, or both, Cats & Dogs at the NGV promises a fun, engaging experience for the whole family — perfect for your next Melbourne day out!
