Federation Square will burst into life with the 23rd annual Buddha’s Day and Multicultural Festival this May.

Among the entertaining and enlightening activities taking place is a delectable Asian vegetarian food fair and a thrilling new dragon boat sprint race along the Yarra River.

Presented by Fo Guang Shan Melbourne and Buddha's Light International Association of Victoria, this two-day event encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to commemorate the birth of Buddha and celebrate our multicultural society.

Traditional ceremonies will include the ‘Baby Blessing’, ‘Future Within Thy Hands’, a twilight offering plus the auspicious ‘World Peace Blessing Ceremony’. In addition, there will be lively dance, song and music performances. Plus, festival-goers will have the opportunity to have a race-off on paddle ergs.

Meanwhile, experience a slower pace through an array of mindfulness classes including gentle tai chi, the ancient practice of sutra calligraphy and the quietude of tea meditation performances led by Taiwanese tea master April Jin. Alternatively, visit the unique ‘Bodhi Tree Art Installation’ and record your wishes on leaves, or wander through the replica Lumbini Garden for calm reflection.
