The iconic publication, TIME Magazine, has been touting its influence on newsstands for almost a hundred years! They have just released their list of the World's Greatest Places for 2021, packed with 100 awesome destinations to explore (when we're allowed!) and guess which Aussie hotspot got a coveted spot?

The winner is... SYDNEY!

The third annual list recognised the harbour city for its impressive seaside location and some of the stunning buildings that create its iconic, picture-perfect skyline.

Several new additions to our infrastructure landscape helped seal the deal, including Crown Sydney's sparkling, silver skyscraper that is now the tallest in Sydney at over 270 metres high and one of the jewels of the beautiful Barangaroo precinct. Another notable mention went to the University of Sydney's Chau Chak Wing Museum - 'a boxy concrete structure featuring exhibitions on art, science, history and ancient cultures'.

Some of Sydney’s more avant-garde architectural stunners were also highlighted including Darling Square’s unique Exchange building by architect Kengo Kuma, an incredible circular building wrapped in softwood ribbons, and Frank Gehry's one-off  'crumpled paper bag' building - a quirky construction that overlooks the Goods Line, a former rail line turned public greenway.

TIME Magazine's World’s 100 Greatest Places edition.

Given the challenging times the travel and tourism sector, and indeed the world, has endured during the global pandemic, the World’s Greatest Places list is a tribute to the people, places and businesses that have powered through the extraordinary circumstances and found ways to adapt, build and innovate, reflecting the ingenuity and creativity that shines through across the world

With an aim to showcase fresh and exciting experiences, TIME solicited nominations of places - including countries, regions, cities and towns - from an international network of correspondents and contributors to compile this list. The result is a comprehensive collection of 100 exceptional destinations for adventurers across the globe to discover.

While we can't venture out and explore just yet, they will satisfy the wanderlust for now!

Take a trip through TIME Magazine's 2021 World's Greatest Places.
