1. The Pout-Pout Fish

Mr Fish believes he was born with a gloomy face and has accepted that spreading dreary feelings is simply what he does. His outlook begins to shift when he meets Pip, a young sea dragon who joins him on an underwater search for a mythical fish capable of granting wishes.

Australian voices in the cast include Nina Oyama, Miranda Otto, Remy Hii and Nazeem Hussain.

2. Wicked: For Good

The next instalment from the popular Wicked franchise has arrived on Netflix!

Elphaba is living in exile after being branded the Wicked Witch of the West, while Glinda has become the glittering public face of goodness in Oz. With the Wizard tightening his grip on the kingdom, the former friends must decide whether their bond can survive everything pulling them apart.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande return for the conclusion to the story, which features soaring songs and a darker emotional tone than the first movie. 

3. Enola Holmes 3

Millie Bobby Brown returns as the quick-thinking Enola Holmes, whose latest adventure carries her to Malta. Plans for a rather important celebration are interrupted when Sherlock disappears, leaving Enola to untangle a dangerous new mystery.

There is more action and peril than younger viewers may be ready for, but mystery-loving tweens should enjoy following the clues alongside the Holmes siblings. 

4. A Minecraft Movie

The Overworld has made its way onto Netflix Australia! A Minecraft Movie follows a group of misfits who are unexpectedly pulled through a portal and dropped into a colourful world built from blocks.

To return home, they must learn how this strange realm works while avoiding creatures and tackling a quest with expert crafter Steve. Minecraft fans will recognise plenty of familiar details, while Jack Black brings his usual larger-than-life energy to the adventure.

5. Swapped

A tiny woodland animal and a proud bird wake up in each other's bodies in this new animated comedy.

Neither is thrilled by the arrangement, but their accidental body swap forces them to see the forest from a completely different perspective.

Swapped is an easy pick for younger primary-school children, with silly animal antics and a sweet message about empathy tucked beneath the feathers and fur.

6. A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough

For a quieter family movie night, David Attenborough guides viewers through the remarkable story of a gorilla family he first encountered during the 1970s.

7. Transformers One

This animated origin story gives children a fresh introduction to the Transformers universe without requiring any knowledge of the earlier movies. There are frequent battles and moments of peril, but plenty of humour balances the robot action.

8. How to Train Your Dragon

The beloved story of Hiccup and Toothless returns in this live-action remake.

Hiccup struggles to fit into his Viking community, where dragon fighting is treated as an essential skill. Everything changes when he meets an injured Night Fury and discovers that dragons may not be the enemies he has always been taught to fear.

The sweeping scenery and realistic dragons make this version feel more intense than the animated original, though the friendship at the story's centre remains just as lovely.

9. The Bad Guys 2

Mr Wolf and his criminal crew are trying to leave their villainous lives behind. Staying good proves difficult when another gang of thieves recruits them for one final job.

The sequel delivers fast-moving heists and plenty of jokes while giving its reformed crooks another chance to decide who they really want to be. Young fans of Aaron Blabey's books and the first movie should have a very good time.

10. Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie

Gabby takes her dollhouse on a road trip to Cat Francisco, only for it to fall into the hands of eccentric cat lover Vera.

Gabby must venture into the dollhouse and reunite the Gabby Cats before her magical miniature world is lost for good.

With music, familiar characters and an abundance of sparkles, this feature-length adventure has been made with preschool fans firmly in mind.

11. Dog Man

Dav Pilkey's wildly popular comic-book hero bounds onto the screen in Dog Man.

After an unusual operation combines a police officer with his loyal dog, the newly created crime fighter must protect the city from Petey the Cat and his latest schemes.

The humour is gleefully ridiculous, the action rarely pauses, and there are enough comic-book touches to keep young readers entertained.

12. The Twits

Roald Dahl's revolting couple receive a colourful animated makeover in The Twits.

Mr and Mrs Twit run a deeply unpleasant amusement park and treat everyone around them terribly, including the magical Muggle-Wumps. Two brave children, Bubsy and Beesha, decide it is time to stop them. The result is a musical adventure filled with disgusting behaviour and delightfully nasty humour, so children who love Dahl's more mischievous stories should feel right at home!

13. In Your Dreams

Siblings Stevie and Elliot enter the strange world of their dreams in search of the Sandman, hoping he can grant their wish for the perfect family.

Their journey leads through wonderfully weird dreamscapes, where fears and imagination have a habit of becoming real. Beneath the surreal adventure is a thoughtful story about siblings learning to support each other when life does not follow the plan.

14. Matilda the Musical

The catchy songs and gleefully over-the-top performances make this adaptation a lively family watch! Matilda Wormwood may be small, but she has a brilliant mind and enough courage to challenge every unfair adult standing in her way. When she begins attending a school ruled by the terrifying Miss Trunchbull, Matilda discovers some extraordinary abilities and decides it is time for things to change.

Emma Thompson is almost unrecognisable as Miss Trunchbull, while Alisha Weir gives Matilda plenty of spirit. Some scenes involving the cruel headmistress may unsettle sensitive younger children.

15. KPop Demon Hunters

When K-pop stars Rumi, Mira and Zoey are not performing to packed crowds, they secretly use their powers to protect the world from supernatural threats.

KPop Demon Hunters mixes catchy music with colourful action and has become a lively movie-night choice for older kids. Some of the demons and battle scenes may be too much for sensitive younger viewers, but tweens will likely be singing along before the credits roll.

16. Plankton: The Movie

Plankton finally takes centre stage in his own SpongeBob spin-off! 

His relationship with his computer wife, Karen, takes an alarming turn when she decides to pursue world domination without him.

17. Orion and the Dark

Travelling alongside the night's unusual inhabitants gives Orion a new way to understand his worries. The story handles childhood anxiety with warmth and imagination, although its shadowy creatures and nighttime setting may feel intense for very young viewers.

18. Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget

Ginger, Rocky and their flock have finally found a peaceful island home, where their daughter Molly can grow up safely. Their quiet life is interrupted when Molly ventures onto the mainland and discovers a chicken farm hiding a sinister secret.

The chickens must break into the heavily guarded facility and rescue their friends before they become part of its suspicious new operation. Aardman's stop-motion animation remains wonderfully detailed, with clever jokes for adults mixed among the feathery action.

19. Family Switch

The Walkers are struggling to understand one another when a rare cosmic event causes the parents to swap bodies with their teenage children! The family must survive school, important work meetings and several highly embarrassing situations while searching for a way to switch back.

Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms throw themselves into the body-swap chaos, while the Christmas setting makes this an easy choice for a festive family movie night. 

20. Tall Girl

Six-foot-one teenager Jodi has spent years trying to make herself appear smaller. When a tall new exchange student arrives at her school, she becomes caught in a complicated love triangle and begins questioning how much of her life has been shaped by other people's opinions.

Tall Girl is aimed more at tweens and teens than younger children, with high-school romance and friendship drama driving the story. Its message about confidence and learning to take up space gives families plenty to discuss afterwards.
