Royal Botanic Garden: Spring Holiday Workshops

Royal Botanic Garden is organising fun and creative workshops this Spring. Make sure you book in advance as numbers are limited!

Origami School Holiday Kids Workshop
Calling all creative kids to this wonderful workshops with Kritima Chamchuen (known as Mew). Origami is an ancient art form that originated in Japan and is the creation of paper forms usually entirely by folding. Join the experienced teacher Mew in this class for kids, and she will introduce them to the basics of origami in a fun and accessible way for the young. It will seem almost magical as they learn how to transform a flat sheet of paper into a 3-dimensional form, using only hands. Learn to make some butterflies and giraffes.

All paper and equipment supplied including some special handmade paper. The teacher will also have extra paper for purchase if students wish.

Suitable for ages from 7 -13 years. Bookings are essential as numbers limited to 10 per workshop.

Session 2: Thursday 27 September; 12 noon to 1.30pm

Crepe Paper Flowers Kids School Holiday Workshop
Calling all creative kids to this wonderful school holiday workshop. Learn to make some pretty crepe paper flowers. All paper and equipment supplied including some special handmade paper.

Session 1: Thursday 4 October; 10am to 11.30am
Session 2: Thursday 4 October; 12 noon to 1.30pm

That's so Corny! School Holiday Workshop
Make a Corn Dolly to take home with you in this kids school holiday craft workshop A traditional figure made from straw, associated with pre-industrial harvest customs of Europe. Corn dollies were made at Harvest time from the last sheaf of corn cut.The Corn Spirit was supposed to live or be reborn in the plaited straw ornament or corn doll and was kept until the following spring to ensure a good harvest. Come and have some fun making Corn Dollies. Try making a traditional doll or something from your own imagination using corn husks and other materials.
