Previously called Monarto Zoo, Monarto Safari Park in South Australia is the largest open-range zoo in the world and already caters to hundreds of thousands of animal lovers every year with its exceptional animal experiences.

With over 50 species of native and African animals, 12 kilometres of rugged walking trails, animal encounters, night-time animal feedings and more, the Safari park is already a wild animal experience unlike any other. And for those keen to take their African adventure to new, untamed heights, Safari fever is taking over the park, with 40-million-dollars being used to transform Monarto plains into the largest safari experience outside of Africa.

South Australian Company, Mossop Construction + Interiors have completed works on the brand-new Visitor Centre, which opened on 25 March 2022. The Visitor Centre project received $11.25-million-dollars of funding from the Australian Government and $4.55-million-dollars from the State Government and is only just the start of the incredible upgrades coming to the park.

According to CEO of Zoos SA, Elaine Benares, "The new Visitor Centre will welcome more visitors than ever before yet still retain that spacious feeling that we love about Monarto. The shop, cafe and play area all have that indoor yet outdoor feel and the view is simply spectacular."

And as for the upgrades to the entire safari experience at Monarto, specially-designed open-sided vehicles, and a 35,000-square-metre walk-through lemur experience are extra additions coming to the park by mid-2023.

Five-star Luxury Resort & Glamping

The most highly-anticipated feature of the new Safari Park is the brand-new five-star luxury resort that's being built with the help of private investor, Gerry Ryan.

"The expansion will see Mr Ryan build a luxury resort with hotel rooms, conference, function and restaurant spaces and luxury eco-glamping facilities giving the general public the opportunity to stay in luxury accommodation at Monarto Zoo for the first time in history. We’ll be launching new tours and offerings, including safari experiences with specially designed open-sided vehicles, and a 35,000sqm walk-through lemur experience, which will position Monarto Safari Park as an international tourism destination drawcard," says Benares.

The new visitor centre and upcoming resort is set to catapult the Safari Park to the status of the largest tourism attraction in regional South Australia - we can't wait to go and visit!
