DAILY EVENTS UNTIL JANUARY 26!

January is a spectacular time of year for Sydney when it transforms into a stage of the best arts and cultural celebration with the Sydney Festival.

We’re excited about the Family program that has some terrific shows to get the kids out and about for the school holidays. Note that the family program peaks during Family Week from 20 to 25 January. Parents, you’ll have to stay with your kids at all times with these activities.

FAMILY WEEK ACTIVITIES

WHEN: Tues 20 January to Sun 25 Jan 2014

In the run up to the end of the school holidays, the Festival Village will be the best place for the days out with the kids and just linger around with the amazing host of activities for Family Week. Drop in to the City of Sydney’s leafy Lawn Library, create a postcard with Maybe (__) Together in Dear Hope Street and explore Maser’s giant art installation Higher Ground. Bop along to tunes at the bandstand with The Vegetable Plot and the Vintage Quartestra, make a work of art with Hotbed Designs, and enjoy a fun range of free entertainment and activities with the Australian Museum. And best of all, everything outdoors is FREE.

CITY OF SYDNEY’S LAWN LIBRARY

WATERFALL SWING AT DARLING HARBOUR

We can’t get over this one! Popping up in Darling Harbour, this ingenious high-tech creative Waterfall Swing is not just for the kidlets to enjoy. This perfect summertime playset – or intelligent swing – will get you wet with excitement (literally!) as it creates a cascading curtain of water that miraculously opens just in time to allow the rider to pass through.

What’s more, the creators have made the swing wheelchair accessible! Just make yourself known to the Audience Marshall onsite and staff will install the swing on request.

TIME: 9am to 9pm, daily

DURATION: Ride duration will be managed to make sure everyone gets a turn.

VINTAGE QUARTESTRA

Ever imagined listening to orchestral versions of the theme songs of your kids favourite cartoons or TV shows? Think Spider-Man, Transformers, Astro Boy, Maisy, SpongeBob SquarePants or The Smurfs theme songs…

Vintage Quartestra pays homage to some of the 20th Century’s greatest, yet unsung, composers who took Saturday morning cartoons as their muse. These familiar tunes and hit cartoon theme songs will be re-arranged and performed live in the style of turn-of-the-century parlour music.

Featuring Justin Fermino (The Cope St Parade), Sam Golding (The Sousaphonics), Lara Goodridge (Baby et Lulu), Mark Harris (Lah-Lah), and arranged by Lucian McGuiness.

WHEN: Tues 20 Jan to Sun 25 Jan 2014
TIME: 2.30pm, daily
WHERE: Festival Village Bandstand, Hyde Park North, near Archibald Fountain
DURATION: 50 mins

Sydney-Festival-2015-higher-ground

HIGHER GROUND

Last year, Hyde Park was transformed into a blow up Stonehenge jumping castle. This year, the kids will be giddy with delight at the biggest vibrant labyrinth they’ll ever experience.

Higher Ground – part art installation, part photo playground reaching over two storeys high – will be a physical and visual collision of bold colours, shapes and stripes where all ages of the family can walk in, play, climb up two-storeys, or just sit down and relax within the piece.

WHEN: Until Sun 25 Jan 2014
TIME: 9am until sunset (excluding Mondays)
WHERE: Hyde Park North, near Archibald Fountain
