Sand In The City
There’s mountains of sand at the Museum of Sydney, just waiting for you to roll up your sleeves, dig about and create something amazing.

Butterfly Craft (3yrs+)
Use your magnifying glass to get close up to a selection of butterflies and insects, and use our craft materials to decorate your own butterfly. Perfect for little ones who are intrigued by science, insects and who enjoy crafting.

Bushrangers Behind Bars (5yrs+)
Step into the shoes of a notorious bushranger and take to the stand to plead your innocence. Or perhaps you’d prefer the barrister’s wig to test your powers of persuasion? Whatever your choice, take on a character and play your part in an exciting mock trial; and see first-hand how a 19th century magistrates court put Sydney’s infamous criminals behind bars.

Kids in the Kitchen: Iced Tea and Junket (5-12yrs)
Hunt for edible flowers in the kitchen garden, make junket and try your hand at creating your own refreshing iced tea spring drink. At the end of the program, you’ll sit in the gardens with your refreshing spring delights!

Come to Rouse Hill House & Farm to meet the staff from Muru Mittigar Aboriginal Cultural & Education Centre, paint a boomerang, and experience the ancient art of boomerang throwing in our beautiful bush setting.

The Funambulist Fun Workshop (7-12yrs)
Join author Hilary Bell and illustrator Matthew Martin, the creative duo behind The Marvellous Funambulist of Middle Harbour, for a historical, hysterical rummage through Sydney’s stranger stories. Following a short tour through the exhibition Demolished Sydney, Hilary will read in verse about some historic Sydney landmarks while Matthew will do some live action cartooning! Then it’s your turn to get drawing as you create your own reinventions of these landmark structures.

Kids Creative Ceramics (7yrs+)
Kids, let your creative spirits run free and be inspired by the Meroogal Women’s Art Prize currently on show inside this historic house museum. Take a guided tour where you pump the water, wind the gramophone and then create your very own hand-painted ceramic plate to take home, bake in the oven and then use every day or display.
