Update: Due to the public health risk posed by COVID19, Cumberland City Council’s annual Cherry Blossom Festival will not proceed this year.

“This decision was not made lightly, however the health and safety of visitors to our events and parks are of the utmost priority,” a Council spokesperson said.

“We understand this decision will be very disappointing for residents and tourists who have attended our Cherry Blossom Festival in recent years, but the health and safety of visitors to our events is our main concern”.

The Japanese Gardens will be closed from 1 August to 10 September, with potential for extended closure subject to health advice. The remainder of the Auburn Botanic Gardens is expected to stay open, however, Council and parks staff will monitor this in accordance with the latest health advice on public gatherings.

The award-winning Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival at Auburn Botanic Gardens usually celebrates all things flowers, food and Japanese culture.

9 Days Of Cherry Blossoms

Along with celebrating the beauty of the Cherry Blossom Tree, the Festival is a celebration of feeling good, winding down and observing mindfulness in everyday life. The 9-day festival usually has different events on weekends and weekdays including Hanami Weekends, Serenity Day, Garden Day, Kids' Day, Seniors' Day, and Let's Japan.

Kid-Friendly Events

A special Kids' Day allows the kids to come along to say Konnichiwa to Hello Kitty at the Hello Kitty Pop Up Party complete with Hello Kitty Beauty Bar! Face painting, garden fairies, karaoke, and Gudetama Stories at the Lazy Cinema are also not to be missed.
