Sydney Living Museums have various venues such as museums, houses and gardens that will take you on a remarkable journey through time and place to experience a whole other life. Make sure you visit a few these April School Holidays!

Hyde Park Barracks – Convict Pirates - Ages 5+
Explore the site of the Hyde Park Barracks to find out about a group of Greek pirates transported as convicts and discover more about the intriguing world of pirates and plunder. This fun-filled program includes making your own pirate hat and solving a series of riddle to discover where the pirate treasure is buried!

       Mondays 11, 18 April and Wednesdays 13, 20 April, 10.30am–11.30am
Cost:           Child: $15 (Includes one accompanying adult)

Rouse Hill House & Farm: Earn Your Tucker (5yrs+)
The sun is up at Rouse Hill House & Farm and it’s time to have fun and muck in to get the chores done. Help feed the chickens, collect the eggs, sort the grain, carry the milk and make the butter. Then sit down to your well-earned tucker!

Where:      Rouse Hill House & Farm, 356 Annangrove Road
When:        Sunday 13 March, Sunday 15 May, Thursday 14, 21 April, 11am – 1pm
Cost:           $17 per adult and child

Vaucluse House: Earn Your Tucker (5yrs+)
The sun is up at Vaucluse House and it’s time to have fun and muck in to get the chores done. Help feed the chickens, collect the eggs, sort the grain, carry the milk and make the butter. Then sit down to your well-earned tucker!

Elizabeth Farm: Digital Claymation (8yrs+)
Be inspired by our access all areas museum Elizabeth Farm to create a mini Claymation film. Working with the Digi Ed team children will learn how to write a narrative, create clay characters, design backdrops, shoot & edit footage, add titles, music and sound effects!

Working in pairs or small groups children will produce their own Claymation film as part of the workshop and invite their parents to join for a mini-Claymation film festival to show off the newly created masterpieces.

Meroogal: A Mad Hatters Tea Party (5yrs+)
Explore the fantasy world of Alice in Wonderland at Meroogal. There will be storytelling, games, hat-making and fun, culminating in a special tea party for children.

Located near Nowra, Meroogal is a rare and precious gem. Barely changed since it was built in the 1880s, the house still overflows with their belongings – favourite books and ornaments, furniture, photographs, and clothes – and the garden still provides fruits and fresh produce.

Elizabeth Farm: Nightlight Tour for Families
As night falls at Elizabeth Farm the lamps are lit and the table is being set, ready for you and your family to experience Australia’s oldest house in a whole new light.

Enjoy storytelling, a candlelit tour, exploring the night garden, and seeing the house be prepared for the evening as it would have been in colonial times. Tuck into a complimentary cake and hot drink on arrival, before you discover how the servants prepared the Macarthurs’ evening meal, bed and nocturnal activities.

Nightlight tour for families: Rouse Hill House & Farm
Round up the family to experience our 19th-century house and farm at night. Start with a lesson about our nocturnal animals in the 1889 schoolhouse before venturing out to explore the sprawling property. See inside the Rouse family house lit at night – the table is set, so be quick as the family is just about to dine! Finish the evening with a hearty soup and sweet treats waiting for you on the verandah.

Elizabeth Bay House: Butterfly Craft
Use your magnifying glass to get close up to a collection of butterflies and insects, and use our craft materials to create your own butterfly.

This free activity included with museum entry is perfect for little ones who are intrigued by science, insects and who enjoy crafting. Take a moment in the holidays to slow down and enjoy an outing to Elizabeth Bay House. Family-friendly tours are also available throughout the day.

Kite Flying at Rouse Hill House
Enjoy the wide, open spaces and big, blue sky to fly a kite with mum, dad, grandparents or friends after finishing a lesson in the schoolhouse or a tour through historic Rouse Hill House.
