The Rocks is overflowing with fun and FREE activities for kids in the summer holidays! Nestled near the Harbour Bridge, The Rocks is a cobbled place of history, it’s very buildings burst with traces of Australia’s past. Amongst the spindling alleys and stunning views are charming markets, quirky and interesting places of knowledge and unique events that pop up all the time that’ll inspire and entertain kids of all ages.
Whatever national holidays are happening, The Rocks loves to celebrate it too, and makes every effort to make it kid-friendly. From New Year’s spectaculars, Australia Day celebrations to school holiday programs, visiting is always easy and memorable.
Unmissable Events at The Rocks:
Weekend Markets: On Saturdays and Sundays, you’ll find a cradle of hand-made and unique gifts for sale. Kids can stroll through and gawk at the toys and fairy shop! You can’t miss out on Liquorice Rocks; a delicious stall of organic and diverse licorices to tingle your taste buds! The 200 stalls are always changing its goods and is quite peaceful making it suitable for kids and babies in prams.
Rocks Discovery Museum: Now that’s school’s out, kids have a chance to learn new things in a fun and interactive way! Explore thousands of years of history in a 1850s warehouse where kids learn through touching artefacts, and are engaged through interactive technology that resurrects our past in special ways. Entry is FREE and it covers Aboriginal and Colonial history.
Are You Curious About George? Do you know who George was? Take a peak into the fascinating life of convicts in this FREE 45 minute tour led by a Sydney Learning Adventures guide from 4 January to 22 January 2016. Journey to The Big Dig, an archaeological site where many convicts lived and unearth the history of The Rocks. This is perfect for kids 6 years and over.
Australia Day: Feel the soothing sounds and sumptuous foods of an afternoon of FREE live music on January 26. Special markets will open up and families get to play croquet! You’ll be spoiled for choice with cafes, but Pancakes at the Rocks is a family favourite with its 24hrs breakfast of smiley-faced and butterfly-shaped pancakes! Some other family-friendly (and cash friendly) cafes to check out are: G’day Cafe, Playfair Cafe and The Fine Food Store.
