Sculpture at Barangaroo
- Sat Aug 06 2016
Everybody’s heard of Sculpture By The Sea- the large art exhibition that attracts thousands of people each Summer to the cliffs on Bondi and Tamarama, but what you may not have heard of Sculpture at Barangaroo.
This August, the harbour foreshore park Barangaroo Reserve will be getting its own version of Sculpture by the Sea- a FREE open air exhibition that is sure to capture the imagination of Sydney families. Featuring 12 incredible artworks from some of Australia’s most innovative artists- each one selected specifically for this gorgeous space.
It’s never too soon to get your children interested in art. They will particularly love Margarita Sampson’s ‘The Grove’- pear shaped nests large enough to be climbed into! Adventurous kids should head straight to this one. Don’t miss the opening day performance on Sat 6 August by the Jannawi Dance Clan at 12pm on Walumil Lawn, and even listen in on a free talk by the artist, happening at various times throughout the festival.
The event will culminate with the celebration of the first birthday of Barangaroo Reserve on 21 August from 10am to 3pm. The party starts with a Welcome to Country on Walumil Lawn and a performance by Sydney Children’s Choir overlooking Sydney Harbour. There will also be the cutting of a birthday cake and 3,000 free birthday cupcakes (first come first served). In addition, there will be a Pop Up Nature Playground in the Cutaway, roving entertainers and delicious food for sale.
