Be inspired by the natural beauty of the Nepean River to get active, live well, enjoy and look after the environment at the Real Festival in Penrith from 4-5 November.
This inaugural event celebrates sustainable and healthy living, and showcases how to achieve this through an innovative program of river, environment, art and lifestyle activities.
Outdoor fitness classes, markets, bird watching and bush-tucker tours will transform the riverbank, while water-based sports such as kayaking, rowing and dragon boating will bring the river to life.
Friday 4 November 5pm -10pm
Food trucks: Sample delicious cuisines from the best of Sydney’s popular food truck scene including Knafeh, Gelato Messina and Char Char Food Truck.
In the Frame Artwork: This solar powered artwork uses light and reflection to create a surreal space that appears to stretch into infinity when viewed from particular angles.
Renewable Energy Interactive Displays: Pedal-power from four bikes is needed to create the electricity for a cinema and kids disco, and to illuminate the outdoor eating areas milk bottles.
Saturday 5 November 10am – 4pm
Breakfast with the Birds (pre-registrations required): Discover which native birds live by the river, how to spot them and what you can do to help protect them and their habitats. Free breakfast provided by Nutrition Station.
Bush Tucker River Walk (pre-registrations required): Walk along the Nepean River with an Aboriginal ranger and learn about the history and significance of the river. Free breakfast provided by Nutrition Station.
Outdoor Fitness Classes (pre-registrations required): Take part in one of the fitness classes held on the riverbank; Zumba, Bootcamp, Body Balance and Young at Heart. Free breakfast provided by Nutrition Station.
Nutrition Talk by Susie Burrell: Leading nutritionist Susie Burrell will provide hints and tips on how to eat well, and how to use food as fuel.
Horizon Line kayak hire: Hire a kayak and experience the sights and sounds of the Nepean River from a different perspective.
Educational performance by ABC2’s Dirt Girl World: Join Charlie Darling in her quest to find Dirt Girl to see if she can conquer the challenges to be the most Eco friendly person in the whole of Dirt Girl world.
Sustainable Living Workshop by ABC’s Costa Georgiadis: ABC TVs Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis will be giving sustainability living and gardening tips.
Black Pebble & The Bower Reuse and Repair Centre Workshops: Black Pebble will demonstrate how to transform a piece of furniture, and The Bower Reuse & Repair Centre will demonstrate how to use reclaimed timbers to create an upcycled bench seat or handy timber crate.
