The Powerhouse Museum has a fantastic school holiday program this July!

Weave, fold, write, listen, play, imagine and create a colourful paper world in Tanabata: Star Village this July School Holidays, it’s FREE FOR KIDS! Plus book for full day digital workshops for budding programmers and gamers, where you can master Minecraft, design your on virtual reality game or make your own professional videos.

Tanabata: Star Village
Families are invited to enjoy this immersive art experience created by ArtsPeople and Slow Art Collective that will build over the course of the holidays through the collective contributions of visitors of all ages. Add to the growing installation and take part in storytelling sessions, origami, wishing cards, musical galaxies and colourful weaving.

Tanabata is a Japanese fable which tells the story of two stars, Orihime the cloud weaver and Hikoboshi the cow-herder, who came to fall in love and live in the night sky. Weave your own story in this collaborative installation. Japanese origami artist Midori Furze will visit the Powerhouse Museum for origami workshops each weekend. Join Furze to learn how to fold impressive origami creations at home.

Thinkspace School Holiday Program
The ever‐popular Thinkspace school holiday program expands in July with new, full day, digital workshops for budding programmers and gamers.  Focusing on creatively engaging kids aged 7+, these workshops will teach you to master Minecraft, control LEGO Robotics using NXT, design your own virtual reality game or make your own stop motion animation videos.


Mobile game design (9-12yrs):  Design your own artwork, music and story to theme a 2D mobile game. This workshop will  also teach the basics of the professional game production engine Unity 5.


When:      15 July 2016; 10am – 4pm
Cost:         $100, one-day workshop


Multi‐player game development (13-15yrs): In this two‐day workshop learn how to use Unity 3D, a professional game production engine  to make a 2D spaceship game for multiple players.


When:         7 – 8 July 2016; 10am – 4pm
Cost:            $180 two‐day workshop


Pro Movie Making (10-12yrs): Lights, camera, action! Genre‐swap your favourite movie scene, and star in your own short  film. Develop skills in narrative writing, storyboarding, camera technique, video editing and  sound design as well as acting for screen.


When:           13 – 15 July 2016; 10am – 4pm
Cost:              $260, three‐day workshop


Super Sixes & Super Sevens (6 & 7yrs): A Fun day of creating stories, programming games and experiencing electronics.


When:           Super Sixes - 4, 8 July 2016; 10am – 4pm. Super Sevens – 5 July 2016; 10am – 4pm.
Cost:              $100, one‐day workshop
