Bourke Street Public School students are adding a touch of bling to their bikes and gearing up for National Ride2School Day this year, as a record number of schools across NSW get set to take part in the event.
Bourke Street Public School will take centre stage for this year’s activities, and Lord Mayor Clover Moore will hand out prizes for the best decorated bikes.
Bourke Street Public School is next to the award-winning City-built cycleway that stretches from
Woolloomooloo to Redfern. There are up to 2,000 bike trips a day on the Bourke Street cycleway. School principal, Peter Johnston, said the school was a strong supporter of Ride2School Day as it was a great way to encourage fitness among students.
According to Ride2School organisers, Bicycle Network, schools that register under the Ride2School program have a significantly higher level of physical activity, with more than 50 per cent of participating children regularly riding or walking to school. So get on your bikes on March 13 and Ride2School with the kids!Q
