What's on for Kids in Melbourne This Week October 1 - 8

  • All Ages

The second week of the school holidays here in Melbourne is shaping up to be just as bumper as the first week! As usual, there's tons of things to do with the kids across the city - from LEGO-filled swap meets to cultural experiences, we have it all.

1. Extended! The LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Minifigure Trading Wall

LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre is celebrating the magical 40th Anniversary of the Minifigure with a giant Minifigure Trading Wall!

With 1500 Minifigures on display, and a total of 3000 Minifigures to trade altogether, this will be the largest Minifigure trading event LEGOLAND Discovery Centre has ever seen! Bring your Minifigures to swap for new ones - while Minifigure trades are always encouraged at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, the 40thAnniversary Minifigure Trading Wall makes the options seem endless.

Kids will be able to let their imaginations run wild with combinations of bodies, face and hair/hats available to make their perfect Minifigure!

Limited Ninjago Minifigures will also appear on the Trading Wall and if you look hard enough, you will also be able to see your favourite characters in MINILAND Melbourne, taking in the scaled-down sights of the city.

2. Tanderrum Ceremony, Celebrating the Language Groups of the Eastern Kulin Nation

Each year the first words of Melbourne International Arts Festival come from those who have carried this land’s stories the longest—the First Peoples of Melbourne.

Tanderrum is a ceremony bringing together the Wurundjeri/Woiwurrung, Boon Wurrung, Taungurung, Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung language groups of the Eastern Kulin Nation—a ceremony of celebration that reaches across Aboriginal time.

This sacred ceremony had been hidden since European invasion, until six years ago the Eastern Kulin brought Tanderrum back to central Melbourne to open the Festival. Since then this cross-cultural moment has become an essential and living element of the Festival and a Welcome to Country for local and international artists
and audiences.

Melbourne is sacred to the Traditional Custodians. Through this event we ensure that Aboriginal culture remains present and relevant to our city today. Tanderrum is your invitation to share this sacred place.
