What❜s on for Kids in Melbourne This Week November 1 - 7

  • All Ages

The weather is fantastic in Melbourne, and of course, this week is chock-full of amazing things to be doing outside in it!

Don't miss the last Collingwood Children's Farm Family Day of the year on November 4, and eat your fill of delicious Indian delicacies at the annual Diwali festival at Federation Square - just two of the fantastic events for families across the city.

Check it out:

1. Diwali Festival

The Diwali festival takes you on a magical journey through India via a breathtakingly vibrant program of Indian cinema, Bollywood dances, craft and dance workshops, traditional henna painting, the Diwali Wish pavilion, the beat of Indian and African drums, a bustling multicultural bazaar, delectable Indian cuisines and a brilliant fireworks display on the Yarra.

Meet and greet AFL players, and enjoy interactive, fun activities for all ages.

Fed Square will be decorated in pink to support Pink Ribbon, raising awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation, so come in pink to support this worthwhile cause.

Little animal lovers aged five and under will have a wild time being a Zookeeper for the morning.

Follow in the footsteps of a grown up Zookeeper and help look after some of the special animals in their care.  After putting on your Zookeeper badge, your day will start by picking up breakfast for one of the zoo's most curious animals – the meerkats!

After giving them their breakfast, you will head off to make and decorate a fun activity treat for the monkeys. You'll then give the finished treats to the Monkey Keeper, who will give them to the monkeys at bedtime that night.

This is an intimate experience with a maximum of 16 people on the 60min tour.

4. Foodie Characters

Be inspired by the different shapes, colours and elements of foods to imagine and create a watercolour painting of your own Foodie Character.

Ever stared at a banana, broccoli or a slice of bread and wondered what they were thinking? This is your chance to look at fruit, vegetables and all kinds of food from a new perspective…

Boisterous banana Bob loves singing, dancing and hanging out with friends. Brainy broccoli Barbara is a super-dooper scientist and bubbly bready Brianna is a Youtube star!

Artist Annick Akanni walks you through a brainstorming activity: What food will you pick and what character will you give them? Are they silly or serious? A villain or a hero? Or what do they simply like doing? After you have decided, learn watercolour painting techniques, then get straight into creating your very own Foodie Character to take home.

Adults are not required to stay.

Workshop also available for 5 to 8 year olds.
