NGV Weekend Workshop, Ages 5 - 9

Calling all budding artists! Discover the NGV Collection and create your own works of art using a variety of media. These workshops combine a Gallery sketching session with fun, hands-on studio activities. Book into one or multiple sessions to learn about new techniques and approaches to art-making.

Weekend Workshops are fully supervised, parents/guardians are required to complete a consent form to bring along to the workshop.

Workshops are also available for ages 10-14.

What you need to know:

When: June 1, 2019, 1pm - 3.30pm.

Queen Vic Winter Night Market

The Winter Night Market returns to Queen Vic Market to warm up your Wednesdays with tasty street food, roaring fires, specialty shopping, quirky entertainers and deliciously spiced mulled wine.

Bring the kids down and wander the Market sheds and delight in the smells, sounds and tastes of winter, then top off the feasting and shopping with a boogie at the silent disco or enjoy live, local entertainment.

There will be 30 food and 50 retails stalls to inspire you as emerging designers, musicians and foodies showcase their wares.

When: June 5 to August 28, 2019, 5pm to 10pm

Exhibition Tour: Mirka for Melbourne

Tour the incredible Mirka for Melbourne exhibition with a knowledgeable guide at Heide museum.

This exhibition presents Heide’s recent acquisitions from the magical studio of Mirka Mora, who sadly passed away last year at the age of 90. Thanks to the generosity of over a thousand people who responded to the ‘Mirka for Melbourne’ campaign, Heide has been able to purchase a wonderful range of Mirka’s artworks, creative tools, art materials, furniture and personal effects for the museum collection. The donations made by members of the public were matched by the Victorian State Government, ensuring Mirka’s legacy will live on at Heide in a tangible way for generations to come.

Explore the incredible  free exhibition that recreates the colourful ambience of the artist’s home and studio, and acknowledges her remarkable contribution to Australia’s cultural life.

Moonee Valley Winter Fest 2019

Moonee Valley is set to come alive with this month's 2019 Winter Fest! There'll be so much to see and do over these chilly school holidays. 

Why not start off with taking a spin on the ice in the heart of Moonee Ponds with the Moonee Ponds Ice Rink? Running every day of the school holidays, it is the perfect activity for the whole family.

For daredevils, the Essendon North Giant Ice Slide is new to Winterfest this year - a huge ice slide will take over Leake Street from Saturday, 6 July to Saturday, 13 July. Race your friends down a thirty-metre solid ice slide on an inflatable tube.

The Niddrie Winter Feast  will take your tastebuds travelling with a five course dinner across five restaurants on Keilor Road on Wednesday, 10 July from 6pm

And get your selfie stick ready for Bright Lights, Winter Nights in Flemington as Pridham Plaza comes alive with life-sized neon sculptures from Friday, 5 – Sunday, 7 July.

Warm up at any time with any of the stellar offerings from the Moonee Valley Libraries, Incinerator Gallery and The Clocktower Centre.

Moonbase ONE at Scienceworks

Moonbase ONE is the latest fulldome show from the Melbourne Planetarium Production Studio.

The Moon has always captivated humanity, inspiring us to leave the world behind and venture into space. Come on an amazing adventure as we strive to understand our magnificent neighbour the Moon.

Taking place across the night of a full moon, we join a Virtual Reality games developer as she struggles to work out what is wrong with her new game. The game is set on the Moon and it is all based on real science. Its due for launch, but there’s a problem. Could the bug be something to do with the phases of the Moon or how it was formed?

Recommended for ages 8 and up.
