Last night we were lucky enough to be invited to stay at the Holiday Inn Sydney Airport to experience the launch of their brand-new Family Package. The Family Package includes accommodation, full buffet breakfast, airport shuttle, kids activity packs and a slumber sleepover set up in the room.

From the moment we arrived, we were all made to feel welcome. I have two boys under 4 and I am the first to admit that we can be a little loud and excitable everywhere we go, but that really didn’t seem to phase the Holiday Inn reception staff at all. I breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed into our special treat night away.

Next time you fly, consider staying the night here first, especially for early morning flights or if you live a distance from the airport. The Kids Activity Pack is designed to keep the little ones entertained while flying (a very nice touch). Transfers from the hotel to the airport are included in the cost of the package and the hotel also offers separate Park, Stay and Go parking options which means you can avoid those costly airport parking fees.

Back at reception, my boys happily amuse themselves in the children’s library and play area as I checked in. It’s Christmas time so the beautiful decorations lit up the lobby area. They are running a kids ‘ornament colouring in’ competition which my 4 year old is very keen to enter. Entries are hung from a Christmas tree of lights in lounge area. They also have an interesting gingerbread house on display that captures one’s imagination.

Our room is on the 9th floor facing north. Although we are literally right next door to the airport, we didn’t hear a single plane engine. The room is peaceful and large with two queen size beds. The boys have a special treat waiting – donut and dinosaur sleeping bags, cloud pillows and activity packs which are koala backpacks they can decorate themselves. The loud excited shrill makes me laugh. When my kids are happy, I am oh so happy!

Children under 12 stay and eat free at the Holiday Inn Sydney Airport, as they do at all Holiday Inn on-site restaurants. It’s a welcome relief to find they have children’s menu with items both my boys will eat.  The restaurant doubles as a bar at night so the vibe is most definitely happening. Eating early might be the key here to avoid the after-hours business crowd, though there is plenty of room for all.

Within a very short walking distance of the hotel is two of Sydney’s hottest locations for the under 12 scene; Sky Zone and Nubo; kids absolute dream locations! It’s also a very short walk to the train station which means you’ll be shopping in Martin Place 15 short minutes later. The Grounds of Alexandria is also close by and as the hotel claims “Explore and experience the foodie culture throughout Mascot and surrounding suburbs Alexandria, Rosebery and Zetland. Transformed from old industrial buildings, the area is now a emerging precinct with many popular and must-try restaurants and cafes such as Hong Ha, Gelato Messina, Archie Rose, Three Blue Ducks and Black Star Pastry cafe famous for their watermelon cake.” Have you tried that watermelon cake yet – so so so good.

Just as a side note; I am an IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) member. I joined after a trip to Corin Forest (near Canberra) for the snow season a few years ago. I receive fantastic holiday/hotel offers all the time plus exclusive benefits, rewards and savings. It’s well worth joining.

Those beds were so incredibly comfy and I loved the pillow options. I had a wonderful night’s rest and the best part? My boys slept through the night in their super cool sleeping bags (information on how to purchase them can be provided!). In the morning, we enjoyed the high point of staying at any hotel – the buffet breakfast and I’m happy to report that this one didn’t disappoint. Hot food, egg station, pastries, fruit, juice bar – all delicious and loved by small people.

There were a couple of things that are a little tricky for the smallest people in the family like the rather tall height of the beds (even I had to do a little jump to get it) and the bathroom sink. We used the lounge chair in the room to help at teeth cleaning time and pushed the bed up against the wall for sleeping. I think this could easily be solved with a step in the room for kids. Something for consideration.

Overall, the new Family Package at the Holiday Inn Sydney Airport offers a great alternative option for families looking to fly out on holidays. We will be recommending it all our family and friends, as we do you!
