Luna Park Sydney Set To Transform With New $30million Renovations

A significant Sydney landmark and a stalwart of the city’s entertainment scene, Luna Park Sydney has just announced plans to transform the 85-year old theme park into a world-class amusement venue.

Already an ellaslist favourite, we can’t wait to see how the renovations unfold—all while maintaining the heritage of the Sydney icon. Needless to say, we’re excited for the ride!

The Managing Director of Luna Park Sydney, Peter Hearne, has advised that said that over $30 million is being invested in order to upgrade park facilities, introduce nine brand new, state-of-the-art rides and update other attractions; all while ensuring the heritage and history of this much-loved Sydney destination isn’t compromised.

So, about those nine new rides? There will be six new children’s rides, alongside a family rollercoaster, a thrill ride and a new Big Dipper—which will be the first inline seating launch roller coaster in the world.

Maintaining Heritage

The plans aim to maintain the much-loved heritage of the park. We love this 1970s Big Dipper throwback!

The heritage aspect of Luna Park Sydney is an important one—as it enjoys such a prominent position on Sydney Harbour. The renovations will all be carried out with both the heritage of the park in mind, as well as complying with existing regulations in order to limit the impact on neighbours.

A Much-Needed Economic Boost

The park improvements will also give the Sydney economy a very welcome boost.

Stuart Ayres, the Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney has said that the $30 million investment will provide a much-needed economic boost and the creation of jobs at a critical time.

He says, “This investment will attract more people to Sydney and ensure that Luna Park continues providing joy and excitement to millions of families and children for the next 85 years and beyond…An investment of this size is great news for all of Sydney as it will create hundreds of jobs, help boost local tourism, and assist in the economic recovery of NSW post-COVID-19.”

“It is yet another sign of confidence in NSW and our economic future – and a sign of confidence that Sydney is back in business.”
