Newcastle kiddies are lucky little buggers! Check out the awesome adventure playground coming soon to Richley Reserve in Blackbutt Reserve: climbing towers, ropes courses, teepees and tunnels await.

The $1.5 million project was given the green light recently by council, with Newcastle mayor Nuatali Nelmes saying: "The new Richley Reserve playground will be another great addition and provide families an alternative to the increasingly busy Carnley Avenue playground." The Council also slashed the costs of school's cross country race meetings that are held in Blackbutt Reserve, capping the meets at $200. Nelmes said: "...schools will be able to channel thousands of dollars they save on cross country races into other areas for kids."

And That's Not All....

The playground will include shade structures, seating and BBQ areas as well as an exciting range of equipment including a climbing tower with bridges, slide and fireman pole, rope courses, tunnels, teepee, rock and stick play, tunnel slide, spinner, swings, sand pit, see-saw and imaginative play spaces. It will be suitable for children of all ages and will encourage adventurous and imaginative play. Construction dates haven't been set yet, so keep your eyes peeled.

Newcastle kids really are in store for some fun- Stockton is getting a skate plaza, water features and a playground under even more council plans! Students from local primary schools hounded council via letters for a playground in Griffith Park, and their requests, and even their designs and models, didn't go unheard. Mayor Nuatali Nelmes told the Newcastle Herald that the $1.25 million development will be “a social and economic game changer for Stockton".

We're thinking that Newcastle is looking like a pretty fabulous destination for a sneaky family weekender....
