It's the million-dollar question on everyone's lips: will Sydney fireworks be cancelled this year? The answer: no!

Sydney is a city that loves to celebrate, especially when it comes to our world-famous New Year's celebrations. So, COVID or no COVID, you better believe Sydney is going to put on a spectacular fireworks display for New Year's eve 2020, BUT, whether or not Sydney families will be able to attend the 2020 fireworks is a whole other story.

While the second wave of coronavirus is sadly still happening, premier Gladys Berejiklian has assured us that the Sydney 2020 fireworks are definitely still going ahead, just not in the extravaganza-esque style we're used to. Due to COVID-19, Sydney fireworks 2020 will be toned down and shortened to ensure social-distancing rules are adhered to. While Sydney's extravagant New Year's Eve fireworks are usually attended by millions of excited fans, the 2020 fireworks are expected to be watched exclusively on tv. The message across Sydney is to stay home, watch the 2020 fireworks on tv and to avoid the Sydney CBD altogether.

Mrs Macquaries Point
Mrs Macquarie's Point was once one of the most popular vantage point to watch the 2020 fireworks.

Custodianship of the 2020 fireworks was handed over to the NSW Government who decided to cut down the usual 12-minute display and to only focus on the Sydney Harbour Bridge as opposed to multiple landmarks as seen in previous years. Unfortunately, the popular family-friendly 9-pm fireworks have officially been cancelled.

We encourage everyone to be vigilant and stay at home to watch the fireworks this year, but if you're curious as to which Sydney's New Year's events are still going ahead, here's what we know so far - Sydney New Year's Fireworks 2020.
