Rated really highly everywhere, the Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens is a great place to start when looking for a staycation location.

To begin, it's right near both the Queen Vic Markets and Flagstaff Gardens in the city, two excellent family-friendly spots, and is right in the Free Tram Zone.

Who could really go past a rooftop spa though? And reasonably-priced rooms? It's a catch!

Crown Towers feels entirely like another world, and there's every chance you could feel like you've jetted to far off lands without the rigmarole of air travel in general. All the best bits without the jet lag!

The kids will love the world-class pool area and there's every chance you'll love the shopping - while everyone will love the dining options, as there's just so many to choose from. 4. The Langham, Melbourne

It might be twice winner of the Travel + Leisure Magazine USA 'World's Best Awards Readers' Survey' as the top city hotel in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, but it's also right here in Melbourne and that makes all the difference.

Right on the river at Southbank, near the NGV, Federation Square, Birrarung Marr and every eatery the CBD offers, The Langham can't be beaten for location. Better yet, it truly is a wonderful stay, especially with kids. The rooms are luxurious and delightful (some even with fully-equipped kitchens, and we mean fully-equipped!), the dining even better.

The Langham regularly hosts children's high teas, and until October are hosting the Barbie Fashionista Children's High Tea for $39 per child, which includes Barbie cookies, cupcakes, macarons, fancy sandwiches, pink cordial and more. Check back for their other options throughout the year - the Despicable Me and Sesame Street themes are popular!

5. QT Melbourne

One of the most unique, quirky hotels in the city (ok, the country!) is a fantastic place to stay with kids. The bright, unusual decor is always a winner, as is the dedicated onsite cake shop. Yes, cake shop!

The buffet at Pascale Bar & Grill is a feast for the senses, and super-kid-friendly, with smoothies and juices in little jars, and a riot of fresh fruit (ok there's also waffles and pancakes made to order for breakfast too!). We love that you can order baby food purees off the menu, and the kids' menu is suitably fancy. Valrhona pain au chocolate, anyone?!

You can grab a one, two, or even three-bedroom apartment in this environmentally friendly rated hotel, right nearby the Crown Casino, the Convention and Exhibition Centre and Etihad Stadium, Docklands (and DFO shopping!).

We love the complimentary relaxation room with massage chairs, free hot chocolates, the library and complimentary book exchange in the A-Lounge.
