Kookootonga Chestnut & Walnut Farm


During March and April, you can pick your own walnuts and chestnuts every day from 9am - 4pm at Kookootonga Chestnut & Walnut Farm nestled in the Blue Mountains. The season doesn’t last long, so make the most of it while you can. According to their website, nut picking at this farm is a highly anticipated yearly event that families just keep returning to: “At Kookootonga, some of our long time regulars are now bringing their third generation along with them!” 

Sassafras Nuts

A 3-hour drive from Sydney, Sassafras Nuts lets you pick your own chestnuts from 28th March to 26 April 2020 and they are charged per kilogram. As demand for walnuts is usually higher than supply, you can not pick your own walnuts. However, they can be purchased directly from the packing shed when available. Here you’ll find over 800 chestnut trees and 300 walnut trees which you can pick and pay for by the kilogram. Bookings are recommended for weekends and public holidays, and weekdays are by appointment only.

Nutwood Farm


Found in Mount Irvine, about a 2-hour drive from Sydney, Nutwood Farm is open on weekends only during the annual nut harvest season (mid-March to late April). The season will last for about 6 weeks, or until all the nuts are gone. Pick your own chestnuts and walnuts in this well-established nut orchard with over 200 Chestnut and Walnut Trees. No bookings required!

Campanella Cottage

In the picturesque and historic Mount Wilson, around 2-hours drive from Sydney, you can pick walnuts and chestnuts from over 100 walnut trees and over 40 chestnut trees grow on the property. At Campanella Cottage, green walnuts are available from mid-December and you can pick your own chestnuts and walnuts from mid-March to mid-April for $8/kilo. Buy some gorgeous home-made jams or plants while you’re there!
