Six of the Best Private Dining Rooms Suitable for Kids

Take the stress out of party planning by getting someone else to do all the cooking, and cleaning, and actually decorating and serving too, plus get them to bring you a drink when you arrive.

Outsourcing may be the best thing since sliced bread (literally the outsourcing of slicing your own bread) and once you’ve got your guest list done, finding the perfect private dining room to host your next event should be the hardest thing left to do.

We’re here to make that a little easier with our top private dining rooms that accommodate kids.

1. Mad Pizza, Darlinghurst, Bondi, Newtown, Surry Hills

The private dining rooms at Mad Pizza could be described as rustic Italian, while the menu is described as super-duper amazing value. Groups of ten or more can have their set menu which includes starters, salads, pastas and all-you-can-eat pizzas for just $30, or $40 including dessert. If it’s a kids’ party you are after, they have a kids pizza party package for ten or more kids for just $15 a head. Function rooms fit between 16 and 60 people and they can accommodate up to 100 standing.

2. Lachlan’s at Old Government House, Parramatta

Set within a beautiful National Trust building, private rooms at Lachlan’s can fit between 10 and 30 people. The kids will enjoy playing in the sandstone courtyards and gardens. A lovely option for family events is the 2.5 hour private high tea for $44 per guest, with bite sized savoury and sweet treats served on three tier platters. Kids are half price and they also offer a special kids high tea with favourites like fairy bread. There is also a two or three course chef’s choice menu for $59 or $69 with a special kids menu at $39 per child. For both the high tea and chef’s choice menu kids under four eat free.

3. The Deckhouse, Woolwich

The floor to ceiling views of the harbour and surrounding parklands make The Deckhouse an ideal daytime venue. Though they specialise in weddings, they also cater for birthdays, anniversary parties and other social events. They’ll even host your next kids’ party for $50 per child plus room hire, as long as you have a minimum of 14 kids. Their regular menu tempts with mains like slow braised lamb shoulder and pan fried barramundi, while the kids’ meals includwe a main course, ice cream and activity pack for $17.50.

4. The Public Dining Room, Balmoral

If you are looking for something glamorous to impress your guests with, The Pubic Dining Room is the epitome of beachside elegance. Groups of 12 or more adults (plus kids) need to order the set feasting menu, though that is no hardship with a choice of a whole suckling pig or lamb shoulder and snapper to share for main course, and a mouth-watering selection of starters to share like kingfish carpaccio and fried zucchini flowers. The cost per adult is between $77 and $119 depending on the menu and number of courses. The shared platters approach brings fine dining together with the feel of a family meal, and is perfect for little kids who might just want to pick at a couple of things. Otherwise kids can order from the “young adults” menu, with simple options like pork chipolata sausages or free range chicken breast, each served with chips or mash and beans or salad ($14 to $21). Treat them to one of the chocolate fudge popsicles with sprinkles afterwards. The private dining room holds up to 30 people, and a minimum spend and room deposit is required.

5. The Australian Brewery, Rouse hill

Invitation list getting a little out of control? For a bigger event, the Australian Brewery at Rouse hill has function rooms catering for groups from 30 to 300. The food is modern pub grub, with catering options ranging from buffet and platter style to a pizza bar or churrasco banquet, with prices from as little as just $24 per person. There is seriously cool indoor play area, as well as a separate soft play area for little ones aged three and under. You can also book a table in the play zone for your next kids party and catering starts at just $10 per child, or $15 each for a make your own pizza party.

6. Botanic Gardens Restaurant, Sydney

The charming restaurant at the Botanic Gardens has two private dining areas available for smaller groups. Fresh Australian flavours echo the surrounding gardens, the real highlight of this venue. There is no dedicated kids menu here, but they do have a good breakfast menu which could make for a family-friendly private dining experience followed by fun in the park.

Special mention has to go to Sydney SEA LIFE Aquarium, while not actually a private dining room they do host functions…… with sharks. This much kid cred doesn’t come cheap, with a minimum booking of 50 people at $120 each, including canapés, drinks and a DJ, but included in the price is getting to be known as the coolest person ever by the kids.
