Summer in Parramatta is a great time of year for families with loads of activities, events and great local facilities

Row a boat on Lake Parramatta
Explore the picturesque suburb of Parramatta on the Lake by hiring a small water craft such as 4-person paddleboats, rowboats, canoes, kayaks, pedal boats or stand up paddleboards.

Enjoy a 1, 2, 4 hour or whole day session on the lake, where there is also bushwalking tracks, barbecue and picnic facilities, a playground, native wildlife and bird watching, a café and a patrolled swimming area- the perfect place for a family adventure!
Where:    Lake Parramatta, accessed via Lackey Street off Bourke Street, North Parramatta

NYE in Parramatta
Bring your picnic rug and settle in for an evening of family-friendly entertainment and spectacular fireworks as Parramatta hosts one of Sydney’s largest New Year’s Eve celebrations, set within the World Heritage-listed Parramatta Park. Get ready to say goodbye to 2016 and welcome in the New Year with live music, tasty variety of food, amusement rides, roving entertainment and fireworks.

Australia Day
Great day of fun with loads of family-friendly events including roving entertainment, Sydney’s biggest hot air balloon sky display, 80m of meat  at the Big BBQ, vintage car and truck displays at CARnivale, Hottest 100 Triple J countdown, kid’s rides and a dedicated Kids’ Crescent with story time, wild jungle face painting, parade of creatures, a drumming workshop, sing-alongs, magic workshops, giant bubbles, boat making workshops and more!

Parramatta Swimming Centre
The facility is hugely popular in summer with young families, kids, teenagers and lap swimmers. On hot summer days Parramatta Pool is an absolute must. Includes a 10 lane 50m swimming pool, a learn-to-swim pool, babies pool, dive towers, program room, modern changing facilities, lockers, picnic and BBQ areas and a kiosk.
Where:     O’Connell Street Parramatta
When:      Mondays – Fridays; 5am-8pm. Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays 7am-7pm
Cost:         Adults – $6; Children – $4.50

Epping Aquatic and Leisure Centre
The newly re-opened centre includes 6 lane 50m outdoor pool, covered toddlers play pool, change rooms and snack bar.
Where:     Dence Park, 26 Stanley Road, Epping
When:       Mondays – Thursdays 5.30am-7.45pm; Fridays 5.30am-6.45pm; Weekends 7am-6.45pm
Cost:          Adults – $6; Children – $4

Playgrounds & Water Play Parks
Council provides water play facilities that offer opportunities for children to participate in water-based activities during the warmer months of the year (closed during winter months).

James Ruse Reserve, 45 Hassall Street, Parramatta: Farm-themed Reserve with playground, two skate parks, water play area, slippery dips, a rope climbing frame, climbing mounds, swings and ride ons, and plenty of picnic tables and shelters.

Granville Park, 2 Montrose Ave, Merrylands: Includes seating, picnic tables and shelters, BBQs, sporting fields, a cricket pitch, cricket nets, a basketball court and a water play area next to the children’s playground.

Philip Ruddock Water Playground, Yates Ave, Dundas Valley: Includes playground with water features integrated into standard playground equipment, cubby house & climbing frame, BBQ and picnic shelters, path that loops around the playground for bikes and scooters.
