Our ellaslist explorer reviews the Museum of Contemporary Art Cafe

If you’re not already excited by the view from the glass lifts as you travel to Level 4 of the Museum of Contemporary Art, you will be, when you see the uninterrupted harbour views from the MCA Cafe. There are spectacular views of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and an opportunity to be seated inside or out.

Best Views in Town…and Kid-Friendly

My family and I chose to have lunch here after a busy morning exploring the museum. Despite it being the busy school holidays, we were seated quickly at an outside table. The area was protected from the wind and it was great to get some fresh air after spending our morning indoors. We ordered our food at the counter and it was served promptly at our table. In the meantime my son was able to move around in the large open space next to the dining area. Here adults and children alike were drawn to the spectacular view and take photos with Sydney’s iconic buildings in the background.

 

What’s On My Plate

I ordered the Ploughman’s Platter of cured meats, cheese, egg, bread and pickles which was delicious and well presented. The menu offers a good range of options from small bites and boards to share, to main meals and sweets, as well as an extensive range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The kids are catered for too with meals such as Battered Fish and Chips, and Pasta and Tomato Sauce. My son ordered the Kid’s Lunch Box which contains a chicken sandwich, fresh fruit, a cookie and a milkshake. The prices are comparable to other city cafes.

The MCA Cafe opens from 10am to 4pm daily (and until 9pm on Thursday nights) and reservations are not taken. With the toilets nearby, plenty of space to park prams and an open area where kids can move around, this cafe is a great option if you’re looking to dine in the city with kids.
